Describe how to operate rocket parachute flares, hand flares and orange smoke signals to attract attention in emergency situations.

Rocket parachute flares


Can be use in day and night long range signal distress situation. In order to fire unscrew the red end cap.
Hold tightly at arms length vertically above head, turn head away and pull toggle. Ensure that rocket is not aimed at people or
property.

Hand Flare

Short range distress signal used to pinpoint position. To ignite, Fully extend handle, remove red end cap, sharply pull
toggle away from body. Hold above head, outboard and downwind. Can be use day and night.

Orange Smoke Signals.

For daylight use only, designed for stowage in liferafts. Signal for position marking during rescue operations.
Indicates wind direction. Peel off top cap, pull plastic tab sharply away from body. A 2 second delay allows time to throw the
canister downwind into the water.
