On November 17, 2023, the 59th Infantry Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines visits

Dagatan National High School. Dubbed as “Situational Awareness and Knowledge Management” the
symposium aims to raise awareness on the CPP-NPA/NDF to draw in the students and the youth sector
and encourage the students to become peace and development advocates. During the event, 2 LT
Jomannes Paolo Ezra B Caῆoneo of the AFP’s 59th Infantry Battalion presented the deceptive recruitment
of the CPP-NPA/NDF. He also played a video of a former rebel who spoke about his life being a member
of the subversive group. Part of his speech also tackles the Law Against Terrorism, RA 11479 Act of 2022.
This covers the ATC Resolution No. 12 declaring CPP -NPA as a terrorist group and ATC Resolution No.28
designating the UGMO of the NDF as terrorist group of persons, organizations or associations. He also
discussed the RA 10168 “The Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012”- punishes
any person guilty of supporting any activities of CPP-NPA/ NDF.

Another resource speaker from the Philippine National Police Dolores, Quezon was PSSG Catherine
G. Magtibay. In her speech entitled “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan” A Drug Demand Reduction
Campaign, PSSG Magtibay in her message emphasizes that the BIDA program underscores a holistic
approach in countering the proliferation of illegal and dangerous drugs, hence, encourages the students
to report to the police station whenever they see cannabis plants being grown anywhere. She also talked
about some of the reasons why people turn to drug highlighting the punishments for whoever caught
using, selling or possessing the prohibited drugs.

Further, FO3 Tristan Jasper C Javier and FO1 Allaris A Aurellana of the Bureau of Fire Protection
Dolores Chapter speaks about the introduction to fire safety services. “Akala po nang iba kami po ay para
lamang sa sunog”, FO1 Aurellano said. By stating BFP’s mission and vision she explicitly stated that they
may have been trained primarily to snuff out flames but they do other stuff besides. She also raised the
need to reeducate the students about the diversified roles of firefighters and to get the public to trust
the BFP as rescuers of emergencies other than burning buildings. On the other hand, FO3 Javier
demonstrated how to properly used the fire extinguisher and discusses the different elements and
characteristics of fire.

Lastly, a representative from the Department of Interior and Local Government discusses the
requirements on how to become an officer of the agency. At the end of the symposium, students and
teachers along with the AFP band share the stage together as they play few songs to conclude the
activity.
