Exploring the Universe with Radio Waves

Conference by the Astronomy Society
The Ashoka Student Astronomy Conference
(ASAC) on "Exploring the Universe with
Radio Waves" took place on November 11th,
2023. Organized by the Astronomy Society of
Ashoka University, the event featured a
compelling talk by Prof. Dhruba Saikia from
IUCAA, who highlighted the intricacies of
radio astronomy, particularly focusing on
active galaxies. The conference successfully
brought together students with a shared
passion for the cosmos, providing valuable
insights into the role of radio waves in
understanding the universe.

Willful Words - Weaving a Feminist

Glossary by the Centre for Writing and
Communication
The workshop titled took place on
November 30th and was attended by a
significant number of students. The event
focused on exploring words that articulate
the enduring emotions of anger, neglect,
and sensations carried by women through
generations. The session raised pertinent
questions about the vocabulary of "will" and
"strike" that the contemporary feminist
movement can employ to express both
anger and hope, thereby challenging
traditional norms of pleasant interactions.

Student Background
Mahi Singh, a second-year student at Ashoka
University hailing from Bengaluru, Karnataka, has
distinguished herself through her active engagement
in public discourse and creative writing. Having
completed her schooling at Vibgyor High, Horamavu,
Mahi's passion for expression led her to become the
editor-in-chief of her school publication and the
founder of DEBSOC, experiences that have further
fueled and refined her interests.

Journey at Ashoka
Beyond her institutional roles, Mahi is a prolific
creator, managing personal projects such as a
creative writing blog and a forthcoming fiction book
exploring the intricate dynamics of political cults and
their societal impacts. Her commitment to
intellectual pursuits extends to the accolades and
recognition she has earned in national conferences

and inter-school debates, showcasing her prowess in

articulating and defending her ideas.

Mahi's versatility is not limited to the realm of

academics and writing; she is also a zonal football
player, highlighting her ability to collaborate
effectively within a team. She is actively engaged with
the orators club, contributing to strategy and
operations. Her research focuses on International
affairs, with a current exploration of the links between
Indian civilizations and the principles of Indian
diplomacy, showcasing her intellectual curiosity and
dedication to understanding complex global issues.

As Mahi continues her academic journey at Ashoka

University, her multifaceted skills and passionate
pursuits in writing, public discourse, sports, and
research, position her as a dynamic and
accomplished individual poised for continued success
in various endeavors.
