Yr 9 Commerce - Inquiry Template

Investigative Process Journal Name:

To complete your Commerce task, you must research and inquire into the nature of the Australian Securities
Exchange’s operation, how to invest in shares and make wise investment decisions. It is essential that you develop
your research question before you begin to develop your script and create your PowerPoint Presentation. Complete
the guided steps below to select or develop your research question to assist you in your research and investigations.

Step 1: Initial Research

The ASX (Australian securities exchange) is an integrated trading system offering listings, trading,
clearing, settlement, technical and information services, data, and other post-trade services. The
ASX can be simplified into 4 main divisions. Listings (companies that list onto the stock market,
Markets (the exchange of goods and services), Technology and Data (more efficient production of
higher quality goods and Securities and Payments ( safe and secure payments between two or
more parties )

Step 2: Choose a Research Question

What is ASX and how do invest in it?
Develop a research question that will guide your research and production of narrated PowerPoint.

Identify your research question here:

Step 3: Justify your Research Question

Now justify (explain why) you chose this question (approx. 100 words).

The main reason for why I chose this question is mainly due to the fact that I need a further understanding
of how the ASX works and why so many people invest into it. By researching this It can enable me and
others to properly understand the importance of the stock market and why so many companies chose to
list themselves onto it, my inquiry question also focusses on the introductory stages of investing and
investing into the ASX stock market, allowing for more meaningful stock purchases and high annual yield.

STRAP analysis of TWO sources
As part of the academic requirements for this Summative Task, you must analyse the purpose and usefulness of TWO
sources. You do this by completing a STRAP analysis. Each STRAP analysis should be written in TEEL paragraph
format. You may use the tables below as tools to help you write your paragraphs. These tables can be found on your
OneNote.

Source Analysis One:

Saving money is important, but it’s only part of the story. Smart savers start by building sufficient emergency
savings within a savings account or through investment in a money market account. But after building three to six
months of easy-to-access savings, investing in the financial markets offers many potential advantages.

This secondary source by Wells Fargo published in 2019 discusses the importance of saving money and building easy
– to – access savings. Due to the date of publishment (2019) and the organisations prior papers discussing investing
and investing into the stock market, (both papers written by John Paulson a famous and credible stock broker), it is
safe to say that this is a credible and reliable source.

Source Analysis Two:

As an investor, you may be able to reduce your taxable income by investing pre-tax dollars into a retirement fund, like a
401(k). If you generate a loss from an investment, you may be able to apply that loss against any gains from other
investments, which lowers the amount of your taxable income.

The secondary source “Top 10 reasons to invest your money”, published in 2019 discusses the ways investors can reduce
taxable income by investing pre – tax dollars into a retirement fund. Since this information was written by a well known
organisation in the investing world, meaning that 1000’s of investors rely on this information, it is safe to say that this
information is reliable and accurate.

better.
