MYP Objectives Addressed:

Objective A – Inquiring and Analysing

i. explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem for a specified client/target audience
ii. identify and prioritize primary and secondary research needed to develop a solution to the problem

Objective B – Developing Ideas

i. develop design specifications, which clearly states the success criteria for the design of a solution
ii. develop a range of feasible design ideas, which can be correctly interpreted by others
iii. present the chosen design and justify its selection
iv. develop accurate and detailed planning drawings/diagrams and outline the requirements for the creation of the chosen
solution.

Objective C – Creating the Solution

Task description:

You are to complete a design folio which focuses on selecting one stage of the nutritional life cycle.
This task directly relates to the statement of inquiry in relation to how health and nutrition changes
and the impact of this on this individual’s health and their relationship with food.

Complete your chosen life-cycle stage design folio in the ‘folio scaffold’ in your OneNote which
includes the following:

Criteria A (i, ii)

1. Pick a stage in the nutritional life cycle.
2. Explain the nutritional requirements of your chosen life-cycle stage.

Criteria B (I, ii, iii, iv)

3. Develop the design specifications of what an ideal meal must include for your chosen life-cycle
stage.
4. Develop 3 annotated sketches (ideas) of different meals to suit your chosen life-cycle stage.
5. Present your final annotated sketch and justify its selection

Criteria C (i)
6. Write a recipe including all the required ingredients and method. Remembering to be as detailed
as possible

Criteria D (ii, iv)

7. Evaluate your final design against your original design specification
8. Explain the impact of your final product on your selected stage of the life-cycle.

How to prepare:

Refer to the following pages in your OneNote which will assist in preparation for this task:
 Functions of food in the body
 Adolescent food and health
 Navigating nutrition panels
 Under nutrition and over nutrition

Make sure to submit a draft copy of your assessment on the progress due date Wednesday 20 th May and ensure
you ask your teacher any questions you have in relation to the task.

Academic integrity:
Ensure you are principled in completing this assessment by adhering to our Academic Integrity Procedure. For
this task, this means you will ensure all the work is your own.
