The legal consequences of family relationships amongst others engagement, marriage, the invariable consequences of civil
marriages, matrimonial property law, divorce, patrimonial consequences thereof, maintenance of spouses and/or children,
the interest of children after divorce, parental rights and responsibilities in respect of a child including care, contact and
guardianship on the basis of the Children’s Act 38 of 2005.
-Explain what private law and family law entails.
-Distinguish between the wide and narrow sense of the concept “family”.
-Define the concept “engagement” and the legal requirements for the engagement and
the termination of the engagement as well as the consequences of an engagement and termination thereof.
- Explain the principle of “seduction”?
-List and discuss the legal requirements for the conclusion of a valid civil marriage.
--Distinguish between a void and a voidable marriage.
-Define the concept “putative marriage”.
-Discuss and explain the various consequences of a marriage.
-Compare and discuss the requirements for and the consequences of the various matrimonial property systems.
-Calculate the accrual on the basis of certain facts.
-Explain how to change the matrimonial property system in terms of the Matrimonial Property Act 88 of 1984.
-List and briefly discuss the ways of dissolution of a civil marriage and the consequences thereof.

This module introduces learners to Juvenile Delinquency, Victimology and Individual Crime Studies.
In Individual Crime Studies, the objective of the module is to focus on the main groups of crime from a South African
perspective.
In Juvenile Delinquency, learners will be introduced to the sociological perspective to conformity, deviance and the juvenile
delinquent; the causes of juvenile delinquency, and the dimensions of juvenile delinquency.
The part dealing with Victimology covers aspects such as the study field and scope of victimology, its historical
development, the definition of the concept victim, theoretical approaches and perspectives in victimology, crime victimisation
