Chapter 11 Review

Concept 1: Agile Project Management

Agile project management is a significant project planning and scheduling development

that has improved the delivery of projects. This type of development in project scheduling and

planning has been utilized in software development industries as well as those industries that

develop new products. Agile is useful in linking the project’s key stakeholders such as the

management and clients to the project development. In addition, the agile project management

serves as the best alternative to the traditional planning process and project management. Agile

project management is a unique planning methodology since it allows project managers to

execute the project in sprints.

Concept 2: Extreme Programming (XP)

Extreme programming (XP) is a planning methodology in project management that is

utilized in software development. Since it is more aggressive, extreme programming elevates the

client’s responsiveness of the agile to higher levels hence the name “extreme.” In this type of

planning methodology, programming codes are kept simple, and this serves as one of the core

principles of extreme programming. In addition to its core principles in software development,

the methodology uses two distinct elements, which include refactoring and pair programming.

Concept 3: Theory of Constraints

Originally developed in 1984 by Goldratt, the theory of constraints has been useful in the

production environment. The theory of constraints suggests that may problems that businesses

experience results from a few core factors. This means that constraints are always present and

they have consequences in any business operation. Therefore, it is crucial to identify core

constraints in a system.

Concept 4: Critical Chain Project Portfolio Management

Critical chain project management (CCPM) is useful in creating more effective, precise,

and accurate project schedules. Therefore, project managers prefer utilizing the CCPM process in

project planning and scheduling since it adds a number of alterations to the PERT scheduling

process. CCPM is also crucial to the project portfolios since it helps in prioritizing projects due

to constrained project resources.
