Role of Teacher in
Society

The key to understanding the teaching profession is to know the personal and
professional lives of teachers. First, it is important to understand that teachers
are the products of the family where they belong. Second, we need to recognize
that teachers by the society where they live.
The Teacher as an Individual Person
In terms of skills, many teachers are very creative in designing classroom
environments and organizing school activities. They master the art of selecting
instructional methods and strategies appropriate for their students.
Cohen, Manion and Morrison (1996) pointed out that teaching is more than just a
simple job. Some people, specially those who chose it to be their professional
teachin as a higher calling and a commitment to positive changes in society in
the lives of all people they teach. Teachers are modern heroes and heroines.
They are the servant leaders, knowledge providers, and community organizers.
It is then important to understand the life of a teacher as an individual person.
Teachers Have Different Talents and Skills
In terms of skills, these special talents and skills that teachers are blessed with are useful in
fulfilling their noble task of molding the minds and character of future generations of
leaders, professionals and responsible citizens. A creative way to describe talents and skils
of a teacher is a simple written piece about “The Body Parts of a Teacher”.
a. Brain - To always think critically an creatively.
b. Eyes - to see the individual needs, strength and nature of each students
c. Ears - to listen yo students’ ideas and concerns
d. Hands - to guide students and to show the right direction
e. Heart - to love all students regardless of who and what they are
f. Mouth - to speak the truth, discuss knowledge, and to speak wisdom among students
g. Feet - to walk with students, explore the sorroundings and discover new knowledge and
information
h. Nose - to breathe deeply and relax when feeling tired or pressured

Answer the following questions deeply but comprehensively.
Write your answers at least 4 sentences (minimum)
1. What are the personal characteristics of an ideal
teacher?
2. What talents and skills do you have that can be shared
or used when you become a full-fledged teacher?
3. Think of a teacher whom you consider to be talented and
skillful in his/her teaching. How does his/her talents
benefitted his/her teaching?
Teachers have individual rights.
All human beings are entitled to enjoy specific rights. These human rights are
enshrined in the United National Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
These are as follows:

Article III of the 1987 Philippine Constitution - as an individual , every teacher


is entitled to enjoy all human rights identify by the state.
The Manual of Regulations for Private School Teachers and the Magna Carta
for Public School Teachers (RA 4670) also guarantee that all teachers enjoy
their rights and ensure justice in the conduct of their duties as professionals.
Teachers have individual rights.
RA 232 Education Act of 1932 - The State shall promote the right of
every individual to relevant quality education, regardless of sex, age,
creed, socio-economic status, etc.

RA 7836 Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994 AN ACT


TO STRENGTHEN THE REGULATION AND SUPERVISION OF THE PRACTICE
OF TEACHING IN THE PHILIPPINES AND PRESCRIBING A LICENSURE
EXAMINATION FOR TEACHERS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
