Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh Assumes Command as Flag Officer of

Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh, AVSM, NM took

charge as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of
the Western Naval Command (WNC).

He succeeded Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi

Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh was earlier the

Vice Chief of Naval Staff.
 Navy has three Commands, each under the control of a Flag

Bird Census Commences at Odisha's Chilika Lake for Annual

Ø The annual bird census in Odisha's Chilika Lake,

the largest brackish water lagoon in Asia

Ø In last winter's survey, more than 11 lakh birds of

184 different species were counted at the 1,100
sq km blue lagoon.
About Chilika Lake
•Chilika Lake is the largest brackish water lake and
wintering ground of the birds in the Indian subcontinent.

•Chilika is Asia's largest and world's second largest

lagoon.

•In 1981, Chilika Lake was designated the first Indian

wetland of international importance under the Ramsar
Convention.

•Major attraction at Chilika is Irrawaddy dolphins.

•Nalabana Island (Forest of Reeds) covering about 16 sq

km in the lagoon area was declared a bird sanctuary in
1987.
Assam Government Initiates 'Gunotsav 2024' to Assess Performance of

Ø The highest elevation record of a Male Tiger at 3966 m was from Kyongnosla
Alpine Sanctuary in Gangtok district which is a NATIONAL RECORD and second
highest record globally after Bhutan.

Ø Gaur (also known as Indian bison) was observed at an elevation of 3568 m

from Pangolakha Wildlife Sanctuary which is a WORLD RECORD.
Ratle Hydroelectric Project to Power Rajasthan for 40
Years/रतले जल`वPयतु पaरयोजना से राजEथान को 40 वषd तक eबजल9 (मलेगी

Ratle Hydro Electric Power Corporation Limited (RHPCL), a

joint venture company of NHPC Limited and Jammu and
Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC),
has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with
Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited

for offtake of power generated from 850 MW Ratle

Hydroelectric Project, on the Chenab River, in Kishtwar in
Jammu & Kashmir for 40 years.
 10th Century Kadamba Inscription Unveiled in
South Goa's Sri Mahadeva Temple

Ø An inscription written in Kannada and Sanskrit and

said to be of 10th century A.D. Kadamba period has
been discovered in the Mahadeva temple at
Cacoda in southern Goa.
