1.1 Background
Petroleum Engineering is a discipline that extensively studies the applied
sciences in the field of exact sciences, which cannot stand alone but must be supported
by various other branches of knowledge, especially exact sciences specifically in the
field of petroleum such as drilling, production, reservoir, geology, and so on. In
improving human resources in the field of petroleum, the need for science and
technology (IPTEK) is crucial and has become a basic necessity. It is not enough to
study it theoretically alone.
The theories obtained through lectures and various media, both in print and
electronic, are not optimal and efficient without direct practice to apply the acquired
knowledge to the realities of daily applications in the petroleum industry. Petroleum
Engineering is a constantly evolving field, and the applications in the field undergo
significant changes, requiring research to keep up with the developments. All of this
can only be obtained by immersing oneself directly in the petroleum industry.
Therefore, to prepare ready-to-use human resources that can compete in the
global era, especially in the petroleum industry, it is essential to carry out Practical
Training or Internship for Petroleum Engineering students. This will ensure the
alignment of theory obtained in lectures with the realities in the field. It is also a part
of higher education programs incorporated into the curriculum as a course in the
Petroleum Engineering Department of Universitas Islam Riau.
By conducting internships, students can gain new experiences and enthusiasm to
continue learning, both theoretically in lectures and by directly observing the
application of various work in the petroleum industry. This will facilitate their
learning process in subsequent academic endeavors, ultimately achieving their desired
targets.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is one of the top universities in Malaysia, ranking
5th in Malaysia and 39th in Asia. It is a leading campus in the field of science and
technology, supported by various facilities such as well-equipped laboratories that can
be used to support the learning process and even conduct research. Therefore, I am
applying for an Internship at the Chemistry Engineering Laboratory of Universiti
Teknologi Malaysia to gain experience and insights at your esteemed campus.
1.2 Implemenation Basis
Internship is an educational program in higher education institutions that is
included in the teaching curriculum of the Petroleum Engineering Department,
Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Islam Riau. It is considered as a specialized
course with a weight of one credit in the semester system (2 credit hours).
Internship is a mandatory course in the Petroleum Engineering Program at UIR. It
is important to understand the actual conditions that occur in the field as an
application of the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom. It aims to
broaden the understanding of the oil and gas industry in general..
1.3 Objectives
The objectives of implementing this internship program include:
1. To prepare competent human resources in the field of petroleum
engineering.
To directly learn, understand, and compare the theories acquired in the classroom with the actua
To familiarize oneself with the conditions of the industry that will be encountered, enabling pre
To provide students with opportunities to gain practical engineering experience, enhance comm
industrial environment.
5. To fulfill the requirements for completing the Internship course in
the Petroleum Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering,
Universitas Islam Riau.
