RITE OF INVESTITURE FOR THE MINISTRY OF ALTAR SERVERS
When the rite is celebrated within the Mass. The candidate for investiture will attend the procession
accompanied by his parents or guardians carrying the vestments.
When they reached the altar they make a profound bow the candidates will take theis appropriate place
while their parents will be given a place to sit.
After the homily the rite takes place.

INTRODUCTION:
Commentator: The rite of investiture is given to a qualified member of the
Ministry of Altar Servers in the Diocese of Bacolod with recommendation from
the Parish Priest Assistant Priests. This will symbolize his service to the altar of
God especially to the priest and deacons and promotion of vocations to the
young men of the Ministry.

PRIEST: Dear brethren, today a member of the Ministry of Altar


Servers in our parish will now have his investiture of the cassock
and surplice. Indeed, when God chooses young men, He will
accompany them with his infinite grace and love.

PRESENTATION OF CANDIDATES
PRIEST: May I now call our Ministry Coordinator MICHAEL JOHN M.
SARAD to present the candidates for investiture.

MINISTRY COORDINATOR: Dear Reverend Father Lou an Torrefranca., may I


have the honor to present the candidate for the investiture of the Ministry of
Altar Servers, please come forward N.
The candidate for investiture goes toward the altar in prayer position makes a profound bow and says the

CANDIDATE/S: Here I am, Lord ready to serve you.

MINISTRY COORDINATOR: Reverend Father this duly qualified member of


the ministry of Altar Servers has undergone formation and training program
provided by the parish and I believe they are spiritually and physically fit in
service to the Altar of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, as the Ministry
coordinator may I now ask your approval.

PRIEST: Let it be.


RITE OF COMMITMENT
COMMENTATOR: Today will be the moment of the rite of commitment of the
candidate/s on his readiness in answering God’s call to serve.
The candidates kneel down at the sanctuary and replies to the words given by the priest to him

PRIEST: My dear brothers did you come in this ministry in your own
will as a response to the call of God to serve him as an Altar Server?
CANDIDATE/S: Yes, I do

PRIEST: Do you promise to serve God in this Ministry and to be a


good example to your Catholic brothers and sisters?
CANDIDATE/S: Yes, I do promise.

PRIEST: Do you promise to commit yourself in the Church and


continue to stand firm in the faith?
CANDIDATE/S: Yes, I do promise.

PRIEST: Do you promise to protect the dignity of the place of worship


and the sacred liturgy, through your service as an Altar Server?
CANDIDATE/S: Yes, I do promise

PRIEST: Do you pledge your obedience to the Church authorities, the


Pope, Bishops and especially to the priests that you serve in the altar
of God?
CANDIDATE/S: Yes, I do promise.
BLESSING OF THE VESTMENT
The parents of the candidate will go up to the sanctuary or any appropriate place holding the cassock and
surplice standing behind their sons.

The priest extends his hands and says the prayer of blessing over the vestments.

PRIEST: O God, source and origin of all holiness, you call people to
follow Christ. We bless and praise You as we offer our petitions for
Your altar servers who will receive these vestments to be worn. So
that they may be identified by others as specially dedicated to You.
Grant we pray dear Lord as they wear them they will rejoice to serve
the Altar as a disciple of Christ, and being fervently committed to
Your love and mercy. Through Christ our Lord, together with the
Holy Spirit; forever and ever.
CANDIDATE/S: Amen.
The priest makes the sign of the cross over the vestment and sprinkles them with Holy Water.

After the blessing the candidate will now wear the cassock and surplice assisted by his parents while the
choir sings an appropriate hymn.

After the candidate is finished wearing the cassock and surplice. The Priest will now welcome the newly
invested Altar Server.

PRIEST: As you have promised in front of the Altar of God. May God
will continue to bring you close to Him through your service to the
Church and to your fellowmen. Keep that vestment as a sign of your
service; take care of it and be a disciple of our Lord in His Church.
CANDIDATE/S. Amen.

PRIEST: As a sign of our approval let us now welcome the newly


invested Altar Server/s.
As a Filipino custom the newly invested altar server will now make the traditional, “mano” to the priest
as a sign of his obedience and dedication to serve the Lord. Mass will go on as usual.
