RITE OF INVESTITURE FOR THE

MINISTRY OF ALTAR SERVERS

After the Greeting at the opening of the mass, the Rite of Investiture for Altar Servers
takes place. All be seated.

PRESENTATION OF THE CANDIDATES

Candidates to be instituted as altar servers at this time are called in the following words:

Head Minister: Those to be instituted to the Ministry of Altar Servers,

please come forward:
(Then state the name of the candidates)

The candidates to the Ministry of Altar Servers are called by name stands before the
presider, and then genuflect as a sign of reverence, then the candidates continue to stand
until each one has been called.

After each of the candidates has been called and each one now stands before the presider, the
presider stands, and with hands extended over, the presider says:

PRAYER OF BLESSING
Presider: God of glory,
your beloved Son has shown us
that true worship comes from humble and
contrite hearts.

Bless + our brothers and sisters,

who have responded to the needs of our parish
and wish to commit themselves to your service as Altar
Servers.

Grant that their ministry may be fruitful

and our worship pleasing in Your sight.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
BLESSING OF CASSOCK AND VESTING
Presider: My dear altar servers as you wear your Cassock,
remember that on your baptism
you are clothed in white to signify
your freedom from sin and purity of new life.
In the same way, an altar server must serve the Mass
with purity of body and soul, and the dignity befitting
as God's children.

With hands outstretched the celebrants says the prayer of blessing.

Presider: Let us pray.

Blessed are you, O God,
For making your own Son the eternal High Priest of the
New Covenant
and for choosing our own brothers
to be the stewards of your mysteries.
May your ministers who use these vestments,
prepared for the celebration of the liturgy
and set apart by your blessing,
wear them with reverence
and honor them by the holiness of their lives.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

After the prayer of blessing, the presider sprinkles Holy Water to the newly installed
Altar Servers.
VESTING
Head Minister: Dear Parents/Guardians please stand, (The Parents will stand) for
three months you have supported your children in their trainings and
formations as Altar Servers of our Parish, may I request you to assist your
children to wear their cassock as you support them in fulfilling their
ministry.

The parents at this time come forward and assist their sons in vesting. Meanwhile, an
appropriate song may be sung.

Presider: My dear altar servers, we have witnessed your love to our

Lord Jesus Christ and to His Church. May you live out your
obligations and be a good model to the community!

Congratulations!

Then the newly installed altar servers take their place in the assembly. Meanwhile,
penitential rite is omitted, the celebrant intones the Gloria.
