II. Project Summary

Relative to DepEd Order No. 181 s.2017. It is an annual campaign of the English
teachers to enhance the learners’ reading skills and help them develop their love for
reading which will help them improve the quality of their lives, hence, this innovation
helps them see the value of reading in their daily lives most especially those learners who
belong to the 21st century. This innovation would also allow the learners to develop their
latent talent for poetry and literature and reading. This innovation aims to support the
DepEd Ten-Point Agenda 2017-2022 entitled Quality, Accessible, Relevant and
Liberating Basic Education for All, strengthen the DepEd’s Every Child A Reader
Program, making every Filipino child a competent reader and writer appropriate for
his/her grade level; and commemorate the centennial of the birth anniversary of Nick
Joaquin, National Artist for Literature. This innovation or project encompasses a wide
range of benefits as to enrich love for reading through various co-curricular activities,
popularize and promote the effective use of the English language thru several activities,
inspire learners to pursue careers related to Languages, discover future writers who will
bring honor to our country in the field of Literature and Arts, promote sustainable
development, and Gender and development. The expected participants to this innovation
or project are the learners from the Junior High School Department

In connection with this, Mangaldan Integrated School SPED Center will launch the
“EACH ONE BRINGS ONE READING PROGRAM (BIG BOOK FOR

8
EVERYONE WITH STORYTELLING”An Innovation in English” on March 2023
with the leadership of the proponent, Cyprus Justine P. Bianan and with the cooperation
and support of all the teachers of Mangaldan Integrated School SPED Center. The school
head and the Public Schools District Supervisor are invited to witness the launching of
the innovative project.

After the launching of “EACH ONE BRINGS ONE READING PROGRAM

(BIG BOOK FOR EVERYONE WITH STORYTELLING”An Innovation in
English” the learners and parents will have a meeting together with the advisers to
present the project and discuss how will the project works.
All teachers are encouraged to make a series of promotional and
instructional videos to be sent to the Group Chat of every adviser for the learners
and parents who have internet access at home to follow.
Since we are already in-person or face-to-face learning modality, it is advised that
the “EACH ONE BRINGS ONE READING PROGRAM (BIG BOOK FOR
EVERYONE WITH STORYTELLING”An Innovation in English” will be done
during vacant periods. The teachers will also do the same when they are in
school.
The proponent together with the English teachers and all subject area
teachers will work hand-in- hand in monitoring the implementation of the
innovative work plan of the school. Likewise, the Public Schools District
Supervisor, Dr. Minerva D. Serafica and the District Chairman In-Charge in
English, Dr. Merlie D. De Vera, evaluate monthly the implementation of the
innovative project. They will provide feedbacks, comments, and suggestions for
the improvement of the innovative project.
This innovative project will be implemented from March 2023- April 2025.
The expected amount to be used in this project is Php 10,000.00 which will be
used in purchasing school supplies for the learners and health kits for the
teachers who will be joining until the end of the innovative project.

III. Project Background

9
Reading is a basic tool for learning. It is a complex process: complex to learn and
complex to teach. A learner who is deficient in reading, especially, so, if he is a non-
reader is placed in pitiable situation. He would be quite difficult for him to assimilate and
interpret something which he cannot read.

Experts define reading in many ways. Reading is a complex cognitive process of

decoding symbols in order to construct or derive meaning. It is a means of language
acquisition, of communication, and of sharing information and ideas. Like all language,
it is a complex interaction between the text and the reader which is shaped by the
reader’s prior knowledge, experiences, attitude, and language community which is
culturally and socially situated. The reading process requires continuous practice,
development, and refinement, thus, the Philippine seek to address this issue by
improving the quality of education and giving much attention to the reading
comprehension and skills of the students, it is undeniable issue that the government
needs to be serious when addressing this because learning is suddenly depleting and
deteriorating.

IV. Project Objectives

This innovative work plan intends to:
1. Introduce the developed reading skills to the learners with the help of parents and
teachers;
2. Promote Reading literacy among learners most especially those who encounter
difficulty in reading and those who are non-readers.

V. Project Methodology
This innovative workplan will be achieved with the supervision of the Education
Program Supervisor in-charge in English, Education Program Supervisor in-charge in
Innovative Projects, Public Schools District Supervisor and the District Chairman in-
charge in Innovation. Also, with the active involvement and help of the teachers and
learners, the objectives of this innovation will be achieved.

3. School Activity Performance. Learners and teachers will read during National

C. Project Risk Management

The innovative project might encounter some risks during the implementation
like fear in reading issues, lack of interest to some learners, shy and fear of feeling
discriminated
These issues for some learners and teachers should be known, to lessen the fear.
The acceptance and refusal of learners should be declared through a parent consent
form which should be accomplished during the orientation
Furthermore, some learners may manifest lack of interest due to the prolonged
no face-to-face classes in which they were not motivated to do reading.
In this case parents and teachers support and motivation to the learners is very
important.
Poor reading skills of the learners is one of the challenges that the learners are
facing due to poor nutrition that their body nourishes, hence financial support service
is important to solve this issue. Moreover, the proponent will ask the support of the
parents in downloading the instructional videos for them to read even when there is
no internet connection. In this way, the issue will be solved.
