Although we are born with a sense of direction but understanding it from the point of view of the examiner, within a very limited amount of time, can be a difficult deed sometimes. The directions that we consider are as below While looking into the page in which you are writing, your right will be alway’ be the EAST, as shown in the above figure. Similarly, your left hand will be the WEST direction, Below the line of EAST-WEST, we have SOUTH and above, there is the NORTH direction. ‘Some tips for solving questions: 1. Always draw a diagram complete with proper arrow heads pointing to the right directions. Il. Marka point as the start point A, and then proceed with the directional clues. IL If the clue says left, draw an arrow facing left from the starting point. Name this point B. If the next clue says South from B, draw a Southward facing arrow, and the name the end of the arrow as C. Proceed with the other clues in the same way. IV, Keep the directional queues in proper sequence- a left followed by a South means “go left and then go South”, and not “go South and then go left”, Solved Examples: Example 1: 'lf South-east becomes North, North-east becomes West and so on, what will West become? (a) North-east (b) North-west (©) South-east (d) South-west Explanation: (c); In diagram (1) the direction are shown as they actually are, Diagram (II) 1s per the given data in the question Sw NW 4 gNE Sy tw W. A'S Bor A#B CODING FORM OF INEQUALITY: In problems on coded inequalities, operators are coded with some symbols. So we first need to decode it and then check the conclusions, EXAMPLE OF CODED INEQUALITY: DmECTIONS: In the following questions, the symbols 6, @, ©, % and + are used with the following meaning as illustrated below. “A © B’ means’A is not smaller than B’. “A % B’ means A is neither smaller than nor equal to B ‘A+B’ means ‘A is neither greater than nor equal to B’. “A6B" means‘A is not greater than B’ ‘A @B’ means’A is neither greater than nor smaller than B’ Now in each of the following questions assuming the given statements to be true, find which of the four conclusions I, Il, Mand IV given below them is / are definitely true and give your answer accordingly. Als ‘Symbol Meaning Than 8 NOTE: Elements used in question are A and B so we have added A and B in table. TIP: Sometimes, to make questions more complicated, reverse relations may be given as: “A* BY means ‘B is not smaller than A’ So here we will write B in the first row and A in the last row. Step 2: Add Symbols to Table Ais ‘Symbol [©] %[+|6]/@ Meaning Than 8 Step 3: Start decoding symbols one by one. Then add decoded operator into the table. Here symbols are: © — not smaller than — means greater than or equal to —+’2" % — neither smaller than nor equal to means greater than + ‘> + — neither greater than nor equal to — means smaller than — *<" {8 — not greater than — means smaller than or equal to + ‘Ss’ @ — neither greater than nor smaller than — means equal to + ‘= So our decoding table becomes: Als ‘Symbol [©[%]«|6]/@ Mearirg| = | > |< | Than B We will now use this decoding table to solve the actual questions. Step 4: Decode Statements using Decoding Table Symbol | ©] %| = [6 ‘Mearing | >| >[<[s Statements: P 5 T,T@R, ROO,O% K Decoded statements: PK Step 5: Combine Decoded Statements Combined statement will be: Ps T= R20>K OLegalEdge Tutorials Page 190 156 Replication or other unauthorized use ofthis material is poh by the enprigh la of Indio SLCUALEDGE Step 6: Conclude Individually Look at conclusions one by one, decode each conclusion using the Decoding Table. Then check whether the conclusion follows or not. A ‘Symbol [©] %|=[5[@ Meaning | > >|<[sl= Than B Conclusion I: R@P—R=P Now from the combined statement we get, P< T = R. According to priority level we get, PSR. Thus R = P is false. Conclusion H: R% P+ R>P From the combined statement we get, PST = R. TIP: Whenever there are 2 conclusions having the same 2 elements and both conclu: check for complementary pair. Complementary means combining in such a way as to enhance or emphasize the qualities of each other = or another. Like, “<,, >‘ and ‘=’ form complementary pairs for any case. This is because there cannot be any relation other than these if these three cases are included. ns are false, always K+T+K K This can be shortened as T2 O> K Now according to priority, > has more priority than 2.
