As a playground supervisor, it was my job to make sure that children

from junior kindergarten to 3rd grade were staying safe on the
playground. I worked with a few other supervisors to ensure that the
children were safe and to transport them to different areas of the
playground and building. We also were responsible for setting up
indoor recess and managing over 100 children. When I was a 1st
Grade Instructor at Kids Inc., I had 20 children with various learning
abilities and children with physical disabilities. Through this experience
I had developed and implemented lesson plans each week. I had
learned classroom management skills while in the classroom, field
trips, and pool days. I had also learned how to think on my feet when
things did not go smoothly. I am currently student teaching in a 1st
grade classroom. I teach reading groups and Heggerty, which is a
phonemic awareness curriculum. I have also been learning many
different classroom management tools, such as call and responses so
students stop what they are doing and listen to what is being told.

Leadership
Many of my experiences have given me opportunities to become a
leader. While student teaching in a 3 and 4-year-old classroom, I had
to run the classroom on my own a few times. My co-student teacher
was sick and gone various times, so it was my job to step into the sole
leadership role. When I was a 1st grade instructor, I oversaw 20
children and had stepped into the role as the teacher. This was a huge
challenge as I had never had my own classroom before. These
experiences have taught me a lot about leadership and when needed,
or given the opportunity I thrive as a leader.
