Question 1: Some think that governments should support retired
people financially while others believe they should take care of themselves. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
People have different views on who should be responsible for retirement
pension. While it is argued that wealthy governments should look after and financially support retirees, I advocate the notion that they had better have their own savings. On the one hand, it is mandatory for the state to provide care and financial aid for retired citizens as each of them has certain dedications to the society. In other words, they enrich the national budget not only through the tax they pay but also commodities or state services they spend on. Hence, it could be equal if seniors receive money-related assistance as compensation for their contributions. For example, in Vietnam, the citizens who have paid for social insurance premiums for at least 20 years are entitled to enjoy monthly retirement pensions. Despite the mentioned viewpoints, I am convinced that retirees must shoulder their cost since the government, especially in less fortunate countries, could be incapable of covering the huge expenses. It is indisputable that tax revenues are also allocated for pressing social issues such as environmental pollution, pandemic and crimes resulting in a decreasing amount of money distributed for seniors. In this case, if the pensioners have saving plans, they would be likely to afford food, medicine or entertainment. To illustrate, during the covid-19 outbreak, although the Vietnamese administrations had reduced pensions in order to save money as much as possible for epidemic prevention, older seniors could overcome unprecedented times with their money savings. In conclusion, while some maintain that the state should take responsibility for social welfare, my firm conviction is that each individual must have money on their own owing to the lack of national budgets. Meanwhile, citizens should take advantage of retirement as well as save money for their own future.
