Part2: Formal Lab Report

Plagiarism reminder: All work must be presented in your own words. While you can meet with class
members to prepare graphs, everyone has to prepare their own graph and the remainder of the write up
must be generated by the individual. Quoting or copying materials from any other source including AI is
not permitted. See the course syllabus for a comprehensive review of the plagiarism policy.

1. Insert the average and standard deviation for the class data from the experiment and include a
descriptive table caption for this table. (1)

Table caption: The comparison of heart rates averages with the impact of musical
stimulation; The standard deviation of the study of musical interaction on heart beats.

2. Generate a second table for the class data from the experiment and include a descriptive table caption
for this table. This could either be on gender or age classes. Think of a meaningful way to include
the data we have gathered as a group (1)
Table Caption: The Comparison of Age and Sex in the study.

3. Follow the guidelines in the “Writing a Formal Lab Report” document on Canvas to write a first
draft of the materials and methods section for your formal lab report (1).

The participants were given an example on how to measure their heart rate before and after a given type
of music. The picks were calming and stimulating music and how it had affected the heart rate on the
induvial.
The participants were instructed to measure their heart rates before the music stimuli for 15 seconds then
multiply the found number by 4 to get a BPM number. This would be repeated after the music stimuli
was applied for a minimum of 3 minutes.

4. Create a graph using average values compiled from data produced by the whole class. Remember
that the dependent variable should be graphed on the Y axis, and you should include a figure caption,
axis titles, a legend, sample size, and error bars showing standard error. Make sure to watch the
supplementary excel video for detailed instructions 1 pts

5. Enter your p values here (see video and lab manual for instructions): (0.5 pt)
1 . Before and after calming music: 70.3115
2. Before and after stimulating music: 73.4847
3. Calming versus stimulating music: -3.1732
6. Please elaborate whether we can reject the hypothesis or the null hypothesis of our study and what
this tells us. 0.5 pt.
We can support our hypothesis due to the data showing that there is a difference between calming and
stimulating music on the heart rate.

7. Follow the guidelines in the “Writing a Formal Lab Report” document on Canvas to write a first
draft of the results section for your formal lab report (1).
The results were that more stimulating music has more of an impact on the participants heart rate or
BMP. This is due to the results of the averages showing the increase of base heart rate in both sections
and how more stimulating music increases the BPM of the individual more.
