Abstract
❑ The length should be maximum 200-250 words. Some Journal except only maximum 150/100 words article.
The following points should always be featured:
❖ Purpose: This is where you explain ‘why’ you undertook this study. If you are presenting new or novel
research, explain the problem that you have solved. If you are building upon previous research, briefly
explain why you felt it was important to do so. This is your opportunity to let readers know why you chose
to study this topic or problem and its relevance. Let them know what your key argument or main finding is.
❖ Study design/methodology/approach: This is ‘how’ you did it. Let readers know exactly what you did to
reach your results. For example, did you undertake interviews? Did you carry out an experiment in the lab?
What tools, methods, protocols or datasets did you use?
❖ Findings: Here you can explain ‘what’ you found during your study, whether it answers the problem you set
out to explore, and whether your hypothesis was confirmed. You need to be very clear and direct and give
exact figures, rather than generalize.
❖ Originality/value/policy implication: This is your opportunity to provide readers with an analysis of the
value of your results. It’s a good idea to ask colleagues whether your analysis is balanced and fair and again,
it’s important not to exaggerate. You can also guess what future research steps could be.
(Continued……)
❑The following three items should be included, if
relevant to your paper or required by the journal you
are submitting to:

❖Research limitations
❖Practical implications
❖Social implications

❑The language should be active rather than passive,

e.g. “we carried out an analysis”, rather than “an
analysis was carried out”
Key Tips for Abstract

Talk about background information, and it may contain research gap (align with your current study and your study’s aim with research gap- max. 1
sentence)
Say about study region/covered area (1 sentence)

Say about data (1 sentence) You can also make 1

sentence from the marked
Say about data period (1 sentence)
region. It is your choice
Say about methodology (1 sentence)

Than say about results, and findings (1 sentence)

Article, Journal: A scholarly journal (also

referred to as academic journals,

Predatory vs Good Journal

Predatory journals: Predatory journals—also called fraudulent,

deceptive, or pseudo-journals—are publications that claim to be Good Journal: Good Journal follow the proper
legitimate scholarly journals, but misrepresent their publishing academic standards for publication.
practices. Predatory Journals take advantage of authors by
asking them to publish for a fee without providing peer-review
or editing services. Because predatory publishers do not follow
the proper academic standards for publishing, they usually offer
a quick turnaround on publishing a manuscript.

Impact
Factor Vs
Cite Score

CiteScore calculation is based on Scopus data, while Impact Factor is based

on Web of Science data. CiteScore uses a 3-year window while Impact
Factor adopts a 2-year window.

Major differences between CiteScore and
Journal Impact Factor:

❑CiteScore calculation is based on Scopus data, while Impact

Factor is based on Web of Science data.
❑CiteScore uses a 3-year window while Impact Factor adopts
a 2-year window.
❑CiteScore includes all document types indexed by Scopus,
include articles, reviews, letters, notes, editorials,
conference papers, etc. while Impact Factor only includes
"citable documents" which are articles and reviews.

What are Quartiles?
• In addition to the Impact Factor or Impact Index, rankings of journals in
each subject category are divided into quartiles by both JCR by WoS
(Journal Citation Report) and SJR by Scopus (SCIMAGO Journal and
Country Rank). JCR is paid version, and SJR is free for all.
• These quartiles rank the journals from highest to lowest based on their
impact factor or impact index. There are four quartiles: Q1, Q2, Q3 and
Q4.
✓ Q1 is occupied by the top 25% of journals in the list
✓ Q2 is occupied by journals in the 25 to 50% group
✓ Q3 is occupied by journals in the 50 to 75% group
✓ Q4 is occupied by journals in the 75 to 100% group.
