Lesson Plan 2/4/24

Goal: Prepare students for ensemble playing

Objective: SWBAT repeat rhythm and note patterns that they hear accurately in 3/4
and 4/4

Materials: Chairs for each student, Instruments for each student

Procedure:
1. Teacher will lead students through a clapping call-and-response game in 3/4
while walking around the classroom to assess learning
2. Teacher will lead students through a solfege call-and-response game in 3/4
while walking around the classroom to assess learning
3. Teacher will lead students through basic body stretches from the front of the
classroom
a. Forward fold
b. Back twists
c. Arm-over-chest
d. Wrist/Finger stretches
i. Pull Pinky and Ring finger up and back
ii. Pull Pointer and Middle finger up and back
iii. Pull back of palm down and back
4. Teacher will lead wind players through breathing exercises while percussion
keeps a steady beat. Teacher will be in the front of the classroom
a. In for 6, Out for 6, stick hand in front as a target
b. In for 6, 2 sips, expel all air
5. Long Tones
a. WW’s will sing do (concert F) while brass buzzes do for 6 counts,
percussion keeps steady beat (switch person from previous exercises) at
a mezzo forte dynamic.
b. Rest for 6
c. Re for 6
d. Rest for 6
e. Mi for 6
f. Rest for 6
g. Re for 6
h. Rest for 6
i. Do for 6
j. Same thing but with instruments, percussion keeps a steady beat
(switch), mezzo forte dynamic
6. Improvisation
a. A student volunteer comes up with a rhythm, winds play that rhythm up
and down the F tetrachord, percussion keeps a steady beat (switch),
teacher walks around classroom to assess accuracy.
7. Who changed the note (if time)
a. Students play a concert F. Once a chosen person switches to a concert G,
everyone must switch to the concert G. This can go for many volunteers
and many note pairs. Teacher walks around classroom to assess
accuracy.
