1. OBJECTIVE
This Work Method Statement covers the procedure for Installation of Medium Voltage Power Cable

2. SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of this Method Statement is defined as below
Pre Installation test.
Installation of direct buried cable.
Installation of cable splicing & termination.
3. PURPOSE
This method of statement defines the responsibilities and describes the activities and procedures to be
implemented for Medium Voltage Power Cable Installations which is to be carried out in compliance with
the Standards Approved IFC Drawings and project specifications.

6.Responsibilities
6.1 Construction Manager
The Construction Manager shall be responsible for overall implementation of the method of
statement to ensure that the installation is carried out as per the project specification and
approved method statement. The construction manager is responsible to provide all required
resources to accomplish the work.

8.1. Cables (As per type/size mentioned in the approved drawings)

9.CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE
9.1. General Requirements
9.1.1. Obtain a work permit before starting any activity and areas will be properly examined to
make sure that it is ready for installation.
9.1.2. All the materials received at site will be inspected and stored, as per the manufacturer's
recommendations.

9.1.3. Cables and conductors shall be installed by trained and certified technicians in accordance
with good engineering practices and industry safety practices.
9.1.4. Ensure that all relative drawings are available at site for execution.
9.1.5. All cables, conduits & connectors will be installed as per reference standards and
manufacturers recommendation.
9.1.6. It will be making sure that all cables do not exceed the minimum bending radius described
in standards.
9.1.7. Cable ends will be sealed during pulling and after cutting in order to prevent ingress of
moisture.
9.1.8. Cable spacing from other services and cable support will be provided as described in the
standards.
9.1.9. All cables will be terminated using compression lugs and heat-shrinkable termination kit.
9.1.10. Coordination with other discipline will be done for the routes of the conduit prior to start
cable pulling activity.
9.2. Installation
9.2.1 Pre-Installation Test
9.2.1.1. Cable Insulation test shall be performed on cable drum prior to installation.
9.2.1.2. Cables shall be tested as per approved ITP/Checklist or standards.
9.2.1.3. The continuity of each core will be checked.
9.2.1.4. Medium Voltage resistance test shall be at 5000 V DC.
9.2.1.5. After completion of test the ends of the cable shall be sealed in order to prevent the
ingress of moisture.
9.2.1.6. Before installation of cables, Conduits or cable tray will be checked for damage.
9.2.1.7. It will be ensured that all the test equipment’s have valid calibration certificate issued by
approved test authority.

9.2.2.7. When the end of the cable reaches to its final destination then cable will be removed
from the rollers carefully and rest it on the clean sand.
9.2.2.8. The find sand will then be backfilled to cover the cables and red concrete tiles will be
installed along the route of the cable.
9.2.2.9. Trench will be backfilled with clean sand up to 200 mm above the red tiles and then
warning tape is installed.
9.2.2.10. Insulation resistance test shall be conducted for all cables after installation before
putting into service.
9.2.2.11. Trench will be backfilled completely with 420 mm soil up to grade level.
9.2.2.12. Cable marker post shall be installed after final backfilling as per approved drawings.
9.2.2.13. Prior to energize, all cables shall be tested for cable continuity and Hi-pot test.
9.3 INSPECTION
9.3.1. Ensure that all the installations and routings are as per approved drawings
9.3.2. Test procedures shall be as mentioned in project specification and approved ITP/check
list.
9.3.3. Internal inspection shall be raised by Sinohydro Engineer after work completed.
9.3.4. Inspection shall be conducted by Sinohydro QC Inspector in accordance with the
approved ITP. Raise the RFI for PID.
9.3.5. Any damage found, shall be repaired immediately.

10.1 SAFETY
10.1.1 Follow Material Safety Data Sheet [MSDS] instruction of approved manufacturer.
10.1.2 All personals involve in work, must be briefed on the safety, health and environmental
Issues associated with the work.
10.1.3 Only trained personnel, with relative experience, shall be allowed to handle Equipment.
10.1.4 Appropriate safety signboard, barriers, lighting and other safe guards shall be provided
as per nature and location of the works. All operations shall be carried out in
accordance with safety requirements.
10.1.5 All field personnel will use PPE safety requirements like safety shoes, helmets, cover all,
goggles, chemical masks, etc. as required.
10.1.6 All the safe practices shall be adopted during work activities.
10.1.7 Maintain good housekeeping around work area.
10.1.8 All Fiber scrap during installation, termination and splicing shall be disposed properly as
per manufacturer's recommendations, company's standards and procedures.
10.1.9 Provide facilities for emergency requirement.
11.1.1 All workers will be provided with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and will be worn
at all time on site. Safety Manager / Safety Supervisor will ensure all the workers are all
the safety equipment provided.
11.1.2 Make sure that all surveyors’ equipment must be calibrated.
11.1.3 All heavy equipment operators have a valid license.
11.1.4 Assign certified Boom truck operator and riggers.
11.1.5 All heavy equipment equipped with Proximity Warning Alert System (PWAS) shall be
inspected prior to entrance to site by the SINOHYDRO Safety Department.
11.1.6 Contractor shall provide the provision of cold drinking water/good condition rest
shelter.
11.1.7 Use spotter/signalman with proper PPE position in a safe distance with high visibility.
11.1.8 Back up alarm should be installed and properly working prior to use.

11.1.10 Assigned fire watch man during heavy equipment operation.

11.1.11 To be providing First Aid facility at the site while using chemical substance, MSDS is
readily available at the site and wear appropriate PPE.
11.1.12 All workers will be advised to report any accident or injury to supervisor.
11.1.13 Conduct “TBT” to brief all concerned about nature of job, risk involved contingency
Plan, in-case of an emergency.
11.1.14 Proper and adequate provision of temporary signage’s and barricades diversions and
temporary haul road as necessary (if applicable).
11.1.15 Storage and disposal of non-hazardous and hazardous waste in shall be in
accordance with standards.
