Marks Time-1 hr 30 min
1. Zero (where the object is at the centre of curvature and image formed at the same 1
point)
2. Nature of mirror: Concave 1
Position of object: Between pole and focus
3. +1. As the image formed by a plane mirror is always virtual and erect and of same 1
size.
4. (c) A is true, but R is false. 1
5. (c) A is true, but R is false. 1
6. (a) Both A and R are true, and R is correct explanation of the assertion. 1
7. To prevent the oil and fats of the chips from being oxidized or become rancid
rancid. 1
8. Three factors which affect corrosion are
1. Presence of air, moisture or chemicals. ½
2. More the reactivity of metal, the more will be the possibility of the metal ½
getting corroded.
3. A rise in temperature (within a reasonable limit) increases the rate of
corrosion.
(Any two)
9. 1

10. 1

11. Name and state the law which is kept in mind while we balance the chemical 1
equations.
12. Because decomposition reaction involves breaking of bonds which require energy in 1
the form of heat, light or electricity.
13. (i) X : Copper (Cu) 2
Y : Copper Oxide (CuO)
(ii) First - Oxidation;; Second - Redox
(iii) 2Cu + O2 → 2CuO
CuO + H2 → Cu + H2O
14. Given: 2
Focal length 1.2 (as the mirror here must be a concave mirror)
Distance of object 0.9
By mirror formula
Or . .
11 1 18
⇒ ⇒ 3.6
0.9 1.2 5
.
Linear magnification = .
4
Nature of image formed: Virtual, erect and magnified.
15. Object position: At C (as magnification is -1)
Object distance= 40 cm ½
Position of the image at the new position of object= at infinity ½
Reason: Focal length of the mirror = 20 cm
If the object is moved 20 cm towards the mirror then its new position would be at the ½
focus of the mirror.

16. When aqueous solutionss of two ionic compounds are mixed,, a substance which is 1
insoluble in water, is formed. This insoluble substance is known as precipitate and the
reaction is called precipitation reaction.
Example: When sodium sulphate solution is mixed with barium chloride solution, a 2
white precipitate of a substance (BaSO4) is formed.
Na2SO4(aq) +BaCl2(aq) → BaSO4↓(s) +2NaCl(aq)
17. (i) Substance X is lime water. 3
Ca(OH)2 (aq) + CO2 (g) → CaCO3 (s) + H2O (l)
Lime water Carbon Calcium Water
dioxide carbonate
(ii) Calcium oxide reacts vigorously with water to produce slaked lime (calcium
hydroxide) releasing a large amount of heat.
CaO(s) + H2O (l) → Ca(OH)2 (aq)
Quick Carbon Calcium
lime dioxide hydroxide
18. (i) Object should be placed at < <40
40 cm (Less than 40 cm) in front of the mirror, i.e. 3
between focus and pole, as concave mirror forms a virtual, erect and magnified image
when object is placed between focus and pole.
(ii) The image will be bigger than the object.

19. (i) Respiration is considered as an exothermic reaction because, in respiration process, 1

oxidation of glucose takes place which produces a large amount of heat energy which
stored in the form of ATP.
(ii) Because silver chloride decomposes under sunlight to form grey sil silver and 1
chlorine gas.
(iii) When the milkk is left at room temperature, the oxidation reaction occurs and the 1
growth of microorganisms occur due to which it gets sour.
20. (i) Corrosion is the slow eating away of metals in presence of air, moisture or 1
chemicals. Corrosion is iron is called rusting
(ii) For silver black and for copper green. 1
(iii) Damages by corrosion
corrosion:
 It reduces strength of metals
 It eats away the metals 1
 A lot of resources get wasted because of it.
Ways to prevent corrosion
 Plating the metal (iron) with a thin layer of less easily oxidized metal like
nickel or chromium. This plating keeps out air (oxygen) and moisture which 2
are main causes of corrosion.
 Coating/connecting the metal with more reactive metal or with a metal which
is more easily oxidized. For example, iron is connected to magnesium or
coated with zinc for protecting it from corrosion. Iron rods are dipped in
molten zinc to create a layer on their surface. This process of zinc coating over
iron is called galvanization.
 Applying a protective coating such as paint or over the metal surface.
 Alloying with a metal or non-metal.
 Greasing or oiling
21.  A chemical equation is a symbolic representation of chemical reaction where 1
reactants and mentioned in left hand side and products in right hand side
separated by an arrow mark.
(i) Change in state: Formation of ammonium chloride: 1
NH3(g)+HCl (g) →NH4Cl(s)
(ii) Evolution of gas: The chemical reaction between zinc and dilute 1
H2SO4. Zn(s)+H2SO4(aq) → ZnSO4(aq) +H2(g)↑
(ii) Change in colour: The chemical reaction between Iron and copper 1
sulphate solution.
Fe(s)+CuSO4(aq) →FeSO4(aq)+Cu(s)
(Blue) (Green)
(iii) Formation of precipitate: The chemical reaction between barium 1
chloride and sodium sulphate solutions.

BaCl2(aq) + Na2SO4(aq) → 2NaCl(aq)+BaSO4(s)↓

(White ppt.)
(iv) Change in temperature: The chemical reaction between quick lime
and water.
CaO(s)+H2O(l) → Ca(OH)2(aq)+Heat
