RETINOL-SKIN BENEFITS

Retinol is a form of vitamin A used in skin care products. It is used on the skin to minimize
fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation (patches of skin darker than the surrounding
skin). Retinol is best used at nighttime, after washing and drying your face. According to a
study by Skin Care Geeks, it takes around 12 weeks for retinol to work, specifically when it
comes to improvements in skin texture. It would take much longer, though, at least 6 months,
to see its effects on fine lines and wrinkles. Please note that the time needed for retinal skin
improvement may vary depending on the individual’s skin type, age, and other factors. It’s
always best to consult with a dermatologist before starting any new skin care regimen.

The frequency of retinol usage depends on the type of product, the percentage of retinol, and
the sensitivity of your skin. It is recommended to start with using retinol once or twice per
week initially and work up to using it more than that. The reason is that retinol can initially
be drying, especially if you have sensitive skin, so it’s a good idea to give your skin some
time to adjust to the change in your routine. You’ll want to use it sparingly at first, according
to Joshua Zeichner, MD, an associate professor and the director of cosmetic and clinical
research at Mount Sinai. If, after the first 2 weeks, you don’t see any side effects, he says you
may want to move up to “2 nights on, and 1 night off.” After a month or so with no side
effects, you can likely use it every day if you want 1.
