INVESTIGATORY

PROJECT
Group 2- Anthurium
INTRODUCTION
Pesticides known as fungicides are used to get rid of parasitic fungus and their spores.Fungicides
destroy fungus and their spores or stop them from growing. Although fungicides can act in many
ways, the majority of them cause harm to the membranes surrounding fungal cells or obstruct
their ability to produce energy. One control strategy for fungal infections in an Integrated Pest
Management plan is the use of fungicides. Fungicides kill fungi by damaging their cell
membranes, inactivating critical enzymes or proteins, or by interfering with key processes such
as energy production or respiration. Others impact specific metabolic pathways such as the
production of sterols or chitin. Sterol is a vital component of eukaryotic cell membranes because
they are essential for cell growth and viability
EXPERIMENT

to find out if the homemade

fungicide will work on preventing the
fungi from growing on the basil plant
HYPOTHESIS
If a fungicide mixture with a balanced
combination of antifungal agents and a balanced
proportion is applied on the basil plant, then it will
be the most effective at preventing fungi
MATERIALS
1 ginger 1 whole lemon
5 tbsp of cinnamon powder basil plant
3tbsp of baking powder
5 tbsp of coconut oil
5 tbsp of olive oil
1 glass of water
spray bottle
METHOD
Skin the lemon then cut it it in half, then skin the ginger
then cut it into small pieces. Place the chopped ginger
and lemon inside of the blender, then pour 3 tablespoons
of baking powder, 5 tablespoons of cinnamon powder,
pour 5 tablespoons of coconut oil, 5 tablespoons of olive
oil and 1 glass of water inside of the blender. After all of
that, blend all the ingredients up until it is liquid. Filter
the solution and pour the filtered solution inside of your
spray bottle.

How did the fungicide work?
Baking powder has an antifungal component (Sodium bicarbonate).
Research had shown that it is an effective antifungal against some
kinds of fungal (specifically, powdery mildew). A strong ability that
NaHCO3 (Sodium bicarbonate) has inhibits the growth of a fungi.

Ginger can be classified as culinary herb, food, and medicine. It

contains shagelol and gingerol which is the most antifungal active
property of ginger. It reduces biofilm formation.
How did the fungicide work?
A spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the genus
Cinnamomum is called cinnamon. A component of cinnamon called
cinnamaldehyde, terminates fungi because of the aldehyde in its structure is
part of a hydrophilic group that is easily absorbed on the surface of the fungi

Small evergreen tree in Rutaceae family flowering plant has species called
lemon. Limonene is a component of lemon that can kill fungi. Limonene
terminates fungi because the cell wall/membrane damage induced oxidative
stress that leads the DNA to be damaged, resulting into cell cycle's
modulation.
How did the fungicide work?
Olive oil ate from olives. It has procedures on how to make olive oils and the
first procedure is to crush the olives into a paste with a meat tenderizer.

Coconut oil are derived from the milk of the coconut palm fruit.
Traditionally, coconut oils are extracted by boiling coconut milk to
evaporate the water, leaving the oil behind.
