China has been gradually


reducing tariffs in order to
uphold its obligation to the
World Trade Organisation
(WTO), and encourage trade
with other countries. From
32.2% in 1992 to 7.3% in 2023

protectitionst reasons

China uses a range of


non-tariff trade restrictions.
These consist of regulatory
barriers, technical standards,
licencing requirements, and
quotas.

On December 11, 2001,


China joined the World Trade
Organization (WTO).

China continued to be the world's


largest exporter of goods in 2022,
while its percentage of global
exports fell to 14% (from 15% in
2021). Total Chinese exports
amounted to $3.71 trillion in 2022
and the largest exporter of goods in
the world since 2009
