19. Dark Souls II Drangleic Castle

Drangleic Castle
Just ahead of you will be a crystal Lizard. Kill it if you can, then look off to the right and
admire the nice view of the castle. Carry on to meet the Emerald Herald. Speak to her and
exhaust her dialogue. cue the overview:

Spells: 2x SA, 2x GSA, 2x GHSA, 1x SS
*Okay, I don't actually have it right at this moment in the guide, but we're 5 minutes
from grabbing it. I'll be grabbing it.

When you're done, head up the steps. As we continue we will have two archers start firing.
Press on a little more and the two statues will come to life and attack.

You can back away so the archers don't bother you, but you cannot go back to the Herald.
If the Mastodons hit her, you are going to be pretty pissed off.

So once you've dealt with them, continue onwards to see two archers. If you kill them,
more sword-wielding Knights will come charging around the corner. Infinitely.

So yeah, you can farm them for souls if you want- but I wouldn't bother. You need to kill
them in front of each of the two golem statues to unlock the door. Once you've done this
they'll stop spawning.

Before you enter, head around the right to find a chest with the Great Combustion
pyromancy. Now head back to the doors and enter. Head up the stairs and talk to the
ghost. This is Chancellor Wellager:

:
Speak with him until he allows you to learn "This one's me!"- it's a gesture. He sells magic
and lightning bolts. I recommend magic arrows/bolts for this area's final boss- casters,
we'll be fine.

Minor plot spoilers involving bosses.

*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***

He also sells 2 miracles and 1 pyromancy on NG++. You can gain these spells through
extensive online play- but this walkthrough isn't covering that. You cannot use a Bonfire
Ascetic to access these spells. You must be on true NG++. Pick up the Knuckle Ring +1
if you'd like- I certainly am!

Make him repeat himself and then head down the stairs. Head to the right of the stairs, kill
the enemy ahead. This enemy nearly always has his shield up, so bait his attack and roll
under his weapon arm. He'll be open for a spell or two. Blocking also works.

Continue forwards to face another- this one has a sword. These are easier to deal with as
their swings are rather slow and wide, leaving them open.

:
Kill the enemies to the left if you'd like, although there is no need. urn right and open the
door. There will be two enemies waiting, so kill them and head down the ladder.

Head down the corridor and open the door at the end- don't worry, these statues won't
come to life. Open the next door directly ahead for a bonfire. Light it and go level up,
restock, or whatever. Return here once you're finished.

Exiting from the bonfire, head right. Ahead will be 6 doors, 12 statue enemies, and 2 of
those golems from the front of Drangleic. The doors here act similarly to the golems,
meaning we have to kill an enemy in close proximity to the door or it won't open. The
statues come to life as you approach, so here's a rundown of what is in each room:

Working from your right and heading counter-clockwise: the first door is the way forward,
the second contains a ruin sentinel, the third is a ruin sentinel and the Royal Soldier's
Ring +1. The fourth door contains a ruin sentinel and a passage to another bonfire- but
we'll be coming back here later, the fifth has a ruin sentinel and a Pharros' Stone, and the
sixth has another sentinel.

Bear in mind that if you die, or travel back to this area, doors that were opened will remain
open- and the ruin sentinels will respawn. For now, unless you want some of the other loot,
just head through the first door.

The chest ahead contains Dark Arrows, and the corpse under the stairs has a soul, so loot
that and then head up the stairs. Continue through the room with the orange/yellow acid,
and proceed through the doorway and up the steps.

Read this before proceeding

The next room has a bunch of masks on the walls. These fire poison bolts, so I recommend
blocking with whatever you have, or rolling. Be sure to loot the corpse.

As you exit, you'll have some archers firing, so you need to climb the stairs quickly. At the
top, inside the next room, are 2 or 3 Syan's*. You need to deal with these and avoid the big
painting, as it curses you (relatively) fast. Stay away from the window to avoid the archer's
bolts.

Melee characters will have a far easier time- though it isn't difficult, per se, it can catch
you off guard if you're reading after each paragraph.

*I could've sworn I saw three, but he appears to have gone. I didn't get the soul sound, so
not a clue.

You can stop here

Now head through the doorway and up the stairs until you get invaded. Bring the invader
back to the curse painting room if you'd like- it'll make things easier.

Now carry on up the stairs, killing as we go, until you reach the room with the two statues.
Look left and you'll find a ladder- climb down. Kill the enemies down here, and then
interact with the wall section to the right of the ladder for a bonfire.

Archers, there is a Hunter's Blackbow down the ladder opposite of the bonfire. It's in the
chest, and there is an archer down there. It is the fastest firing bow in the game, and is
amazing with lightning infusion + poison bolts. I highly recommend it. This is (probably)
the only experience I have with archery stuff besides the H. C'bow.

need to, and then head back up the ladder. Continue upwards
now until you enter a room with a lady. Head towards her and speak with her. Once she's
done talking, head out the door to your right and you'll come across a fog door.

There aren't any offline summons, but if you can find a summon sign- perfect. We're
about to fight...

The Dragonriders
That's plural, not singular.

These guys can be frustrating, but they're no Ornstein and Smough- in fact, these guys
are pushovers in comparison (for those unfamiliar, they're Dark Souls 1 bosses). One will
be firing greatarrows at you, and the other will be face punching you.

Facepunchers, your best bet is to kite the melee guy and keep your shield up/dodge (the
arrows- and I suppose this guy too).

https://www.trueachievements.com/game/Dark-Souls-II/walkthrough/19 8/4/23, 6 15 PM
Page 5 of 13
:
When the melee one is by the fog door, run like a mother towards the the archer, so
you're sat underneath him, and he should drop down.

Get a swing in if you can, otherwise lure the melee one across to the fog door again, then
sprint back to the archer. This time just go ham on the archer for as long as you can, until
the melee guy gets close. Kite away, sprint back, punch archer. Repeat until he dies.

With the archer dealt with (it doesn't take long), we can deal with the other one. This guy
has about 2,200 more health than the last one- so it'll take a little longer to kill him. This
guy is basically the same as the Dragonrider from Heide's Tower- just a little tougher and
harder-hitting.

Just a heads up: the archer can switch to melee gear. I've only had it happen as a
sorcerer though- probably because I was attacking at a range.

Nubaa has you covered with this video guide though, so here you go:

*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***

Casters, you should be able to kill/nearly kill the archer with Soul Spear before the fight
properly begins. If you can't, don't worry. Just do as above.

Captain Ashran has you covered here with his guide:

*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***

The boss fight starts 16 minutes in. I couldn't embed the video and have it start there.

We don't need this soul, so consume it.

Once this fight is over, continue on to find another bonfire and Benhart. Exhaust his
dialogue, as per usual, and then level up, upgrade, etc, and return to the Central Drangleic
Castle fire.

Head down the stairs, into the room, and climb up the ladder to the right. Follow the room
until you come across a door, and then open it.

:
At the far end will be a Golem, and either side are some statues. Kill one in front of the
Golem to lower the elevator, and then head through the door on the right. Loot both of the
chests for the Soul Greatsword spell.

Continue through the next room and very quickly head up the steps. It doesn't matter
which side, but be quick as there are several archers with greatbows on either side of the
room.

Clear them out and loot the chests- the metal chest (upper floor, further away) contains
Firestorm, and the wooden chest (upper floor, closer side) contains a few greatarrows and
is also trapped.

With the archers cleared, deal with the enemies opposite the stairs and then head through
the door and killl the Mastodon. Head immediately right, up the steps, and climb the
ladder. Kill the enemies up here and then climb back down the ladder- if you've dropped
down, then look left of where you dropped to drop onto the stairs.

Head inside this building, loot the corpse, and then loot the chest for an Estus Shard. Pull
the nearby lever to open the gate, and deal with the Syan waiting at the bottom of the
stairs. Carry on and you'll come across the bonfire we were just at. Rest up if you need to.

Level up, stock up, and turn in the Estus shard now. We're about to enter a boss fight.
Also, you are now at the maximum number of Estus Flasks (12). If, for some reason,
you're finding yourself short of 2, don't worry. Even though we can't use it, I'll be pointing
out a 13th Estus Shard as it's on the way to a Miracle. If you don't need it then ignore it or
sell it to Gavlan

Now head back to the bonfire and head down the stairs again. You'll notice the hole in the
middle of the room- and the giant spiralling pillar- are gone. Stand on the plate to take an
elevator up.

Enter the door ahead to see a girl in a cage and a man chained to the front. We can't do
anything with them yet, so ignore them. Around the room are three chests, so loot them-
one will contain a sorcery. Head back down the elevator and open the door.

King's Passage
*Insert butt jokes here- you know you want to*

Archers and casters with good eyes can attempt to snipe the statues from here, otherwise
just head down the walkway and the statues will come to life. If you snipe them, you're
looking for the statues that still have heads.

There are corpses littered along this path- some behind pillars, so you won't see them at
first. Loot them as you go, and then look for Benhart's summon sign- and any others you
can find.

We're about to face...

Fyter, the Tin Soldier The Looking Glass Knight

For those of you that are curious, it's a Wizard of Oz character.

This boss fight is a unique one- at least, if you're playing online it can be. After fighting
him for a while or he reaches 50% health, whichever comes first, he'll place his shield
down to summon a red phantom. If you're online, this can be another player.

I advise killing the phantom as soon as you can, but until it's summoned you can just wail
on the knight- he's vulnerable while summoning. He can also be knocked out of his
summon if he's damaged enough- so bear that in mind. Tanks can (generally) block his
attacks with little problem, the exception being his lightning. You may struggle depending
on your shield- so I advise dodging this.

All in all, it's basically just block/dodge and hit him on openings. He's a simple boss with a
few awesome mechanics. He'll summon additional phantoms if your fight drags on long
enough, but don't worry about it.

The only (major) problem casters will have is hitting him- hitting his shield will make your
spells fly off in different directions. To remedy this I actually hugged him and dodged
under his sword arm whenever he attacked, then attacked. If he targets Benhart instead,
stay on the knight's front-right at a distance and unleash spells.

Of course, since this is another achievement-related NPC, he needs to survive.

Not-casters should go and thank Snvw for this one:

We don't need his soul, so eat it unless you want his sword or shield. Also, bleep bloop!

Head to the back of the arena, but don't step onto the lift. Head around the left to find a
chest. Loot it for 3 ascetics, a sorcery, and a +2 spellquartz ring. Now take the elevator
