CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
Plaster is a medical tool commonly used to protect wounds or injuries.
Made from materials such as plaster or plastic, plaster helps reduce movement
of the injured area, speeds healing, and prevents infection. The use of plaster
in the medical world has been a common practice for many years to support
the healing process and minimize the risk of complications.
Background regarding medical tape involves an understanding of its
function as a medical device used to protect and support the healing of
wounds or injuries. Medical plasters are generally made from materials that
can stick to the skin, provide physical protection, and support the healing
process.
Medical plasters have a long history involving the use of covering and
dressing materials since ancient times. However, the modern form of gypsum
plaster was first introduced in the 19th century by a French doctor named
Louis Seutin. This plaster cast later became popular as a method of treating
bone and cartilage injuries.

DISCUSSION
2.1 DEFINITION
Plaster is a tool for bandaging, covering something, usually a wound on our body.
Below are the types of dressing tools, one of which is plaster
• Plaster
Plaster is a material used for external use made from a material that can stick to
the skin and stick to sanitary napkins. Plaster is useful for protecting wounds from
being hit, damaged or dirty. Plaster is usually covered by woven, plastic, or latex
rubber which has adhesive capabilities. Although there are many variations of tape
with protective functions, there are also types that are specific for certain
occasions, such as for sports medicine, food holders, and rehabilitation. For
example Band-Aid, Curad, Nexcare, Kinesio Tape, McConell Tape, Micropore,
Vetrap, etc. Plasters that function to spread medication onto the skin rather than
protect the wound are called transdermal plasters.

2.2 The functions
Medical plaster, or better known as a medical cast, is used to immobilize and
protect areas of bone or joint injury. Its main function is to reduce movement and
prevent incorrect positioning of the injured body part, allowing for optimal
healing. A medical cast may also be used to relieve pain and prevent swelling.
Clean the area to be applied with medical plaster with water and soap. Make sure
it is dry before continuing.
Open the medical plaster packaging and make sure there is no damage to the
product.
3. Apply Plaster:
Gently apply medical plaster around the injured area. Make sure it is not too tight
or too loose.
If the medical plaster used is too large, cut it to the required size.
Make sure the skin around the plaster is clean and dry to prevent infection.
6. Check Periodically:
Check the condition of the plaster periodically. Change the plaster if it gets wet or
there are signs of infection.

CHAPTER III
CONCLUSION
3.1 CONCLUSION
Medical plaster is a material generally used to protect and stabilize areas
of injury, such as broken bones or muscle injuries. This plaster is made of
gypsum which is placed around the injured area to form a strong support.
Using medical plaster can help reduce movement and
prevent further injury.
