Youth in Padang, West Sumatra. According to Dewi, R.S. and Rino, A. (2018), The

creative industry is an industry which has its origin in individual creativity, skill, and

talent, and which has a potential “for wealth and job creation through the generation and

exploitation of intellectual property” (Lee, 2014). The animation creative industry has not

been popular in Padang, West Sumatra. But lately, animation has gained more and

more interest from the youth and is developing, even though the number of animators is

only a few at the moment in West Sumatra. A few young animators started emerging in

animation communities. This research aims to study the development of animated films

in the last decade, which has made Indonesia a target market for products from creative

industries abroad. These creative products consist of comics, animated films, and

games. Several animated films abroad have been successful and favored by

Indonesian children. The results of the study show that building the creativity of young

people, particularly in the field of animation, through this animation study can open up

opportunities for growth in the creative industry. In the face of intense competition in the

job market and the declining reliability of the manufacturing industry sector, developing

creative human resources emerges as a solution to prevent an economic downturn in

society.

Effectiveness of animation as a tool for communication in primary education: An

experimental study in India. M., S. and Tyagi, S.K. (2018) stated that animation is
effective in education, even in developing countries such as India, efforts should be

made to convert existing curricula into animated multimedia content. Currently, most

government-run schools in India use traditional chalk-and-talk methods for teaching.

The use of animated instructional material will help improve the standard of educational

communication in classroom, and maintain consistency in delivering the curriculum. The

objective of this study is to assess the effectiveness of animation in education, in the

context of developing Asian countries, using Karnataka, an Indian state, as a study

area. The results of this research study indicate that animation can be used as an

effective tool for communication in pedagogy and, if used properly, can improve

students’ academic performance in primary education, even in developing countries

such as India.

Digital 2D Animation for Educational Visualization in Secondary School: A

Development Courseware of Bintang Hati PT3 Novel. Md. Aziz, et al. (2019) mentioned

that multimedia technology has opened up new opportunities and exploration to be

exploited in learning environment. This technology has the ability to integrate, combine,

and deliver various media such as text, graphic, audio, video, animation and interactivity

which can help make teaching and learning process more effective and rewarding.

However, a multimedia courseware development high-quality and cost-effective is a

major challenge that needs to be addressed and focused if we want to integrate the

multimedia application a real success. This study aims to presents development of a

multimedia courseware using 2D animation for PT3 students in secondary school in

assisting them to learn about the Bintang Hati novel using visualization technique. The
findings from the analysis have respond to the study’s research questions and help to

achieve its goals, which are to transform the traditional learning method into the digital

learning which is with the technology assisting enable students learning in fast and

interesting. Besides that, using digital 2D animation in deliver content from printed book

into visualization will make student more understand the story line and help them to

imagine the real situation of the story. It is also can make students memorize the story

in a long time period compared to reading book only. Therefore, at this age, technology

in learning is a necessity not just an option because of the growing technology.

Video Animated Stories: An Innovative Reading Assessment Scheme in Improving

Comprehension Skills among Grade 7 Learners at Alitagtag National High School. M.

Catapang and B. Medina (2021) stated that video animated stories serve as an

interactive and multi-sensory approach to reading and learning, allowing learners to

have access and provision to reading activities through innovative literary stories

presented, reinforcing written texts to their graphical illustrations. Animation provides

teachers an avenue to creatively present stories comically with artistic illustrations,

clipart, design, and generated effects to move characters and motivate learners to read

and comprehend easily a literary piece. The given study aims to improve reading

comprehension skills among learners of Alitagtag National High School whose reading

category is in the Capacity Reading level. Specifically, the study endeavors determine

learners’ reading level in a Pre-Informal Reading Inventory and comprehension Test.

Identify improvement of learners reading proficiency in the video animated stories using

the selected reading materials. Evaluate and compare learner’s reading level in a Post

Informal Reading Inventory and comprehension Test. Lastly, identify level of satisfaction

in the reading experience among learners where Video Animated stories were utilized.

Animation in education is about “interactive Learning”. This only proves that reading

comprehension skills among learners is strengthened and reinforced when video

animation stories were applied. Research findings revealed that learner’s achieved

higher proficiency of reading comprehension with an average of 89 percent in the three

selected stories when video animated stories were utilized in the Reading Assessment

tool; whereas, 74 percent of learning proficiency was obtained by learners in traditional

reading assessment tool without video animation. Likewise, greater learner reading

speed is achieved by learner in video animation stories. Only in video animated stories

that majority of learners gained S+C+ of reading level. Results in the Post-Informal

Reading Assessment entailed positive results under learners who utilizes video

animated stories. Significant increase is noted among all Grade levels. Hence, learners

derived high Satisfaction level of perception in the use video animation stories in

improving their reading comprehension skills.

Animated Video Story as Innovative To Improve Grade 3 Learners’ Story Writing

Skills. C. Samosa, et al. (2021) cited that writing skills are crucial for students especially

at Grade level because it develops the students’ critical thinking skills and improves

their academic performance. Writing Skills also help to cultivate the emotional growth of

a child. Reading comprehension, analytical skills, and writing skills are the skills
involved in writing which some students may lack or partially mastered. When a student

lacks these skills, they may experience difficulty in writing. This study aims to evaluate

the effectiveness of Animated video stories as innovation to improve learners’ story

writing skills in Grade 3 in Gumaok Elementary School SY 2021-2022. Since digital

cameras, personal computers, scanners, and easy-to-use software have become

available to educators to harness the digital world, the use of new technology in

educational systems has risen significantly in recent years. The impact of new

technologies in educational settings has been mainly good, as they have allowed

educators to improve their knowledge. The research results and discussion on the

Animated video story as innovation to improve grade 3 learners’ story writing skills of

Gumaok Elementary School are: (1) The animated video stories as innovation had a

positive impact in improving the grade 3 learners’ story writing skills. (2) The learners’

have a high positive attitude towards the utilization of animated video stories as

innovation in improving their story writing skills. Therefore, the researchers study results

animation in education and the creative industry. In West Sumatra, animation emerges

as a catalyst for youth creativity and economic growth, despite its initial limited

popularity. In India, the integration of animated multimedia content in education proves

effective in improving communication and academic performance. The development of

2D animation courseware in secondary schools is highlighted as transformative,

enhancing the learning experience. On a local scale, animated video stories

demonstrate a significant positive impact on reading comprehension and story writing

skills among Grade 7 and Grade 3 learners, respectively. Collectively, these studies

emphasize the versatile role of animation as a tool for fostering creativity,

communication, and skill development in diverse educational contexts, both globally and

locally.
