Epilux 65 ZR Primer

USES
Suitable for application as a priming coat on transformers, tank exteriors, pipelines, structural steel of off-shore, refineries,
power genrerating plant, mining facilities, and bulk handling equipment, metro rail station steel trusses, stadium structures ,
tank externals, mild steel bridges, airports & architectural Structures .

SCOPE
Two pack organic zinc primer specially designed with a high quantum of metallic zinc for superior cathodic protection. The
performance of primer over blasted metal will be excellent if exposed with suitable top coats to saline and highly corrosive
environment.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Remove grease, oil and other contaminants preferably by using Solvent Cleaning as per SSPC SP1. Abrasive Blast clean to
a minimum SSPC SP10, with a surface profile of 45 - 55 microns.. For severe corrosive conditions, blast clean to SSPC SP5
Special care must be taken on weld areas to remove flux and spatter; welds should be ground back to avoid pockets. The
cleaned surface should be dry and free of dust. The coating to be applied before the surface gets contaminated.
SSPC SP3 is recommended for repair jobs on galvanized surfaces and for zinc primed steel. Brush painting and stripe coat is
recommended on all edges, angle, corners, pitted, welded areas.

APPLICATION

Stir the base thoroughly and then mix three parts of base and one part of catalyst by volume to uniform consistency.
Brush : Apply without thinning. Conventional Spray: 10 - 15% thinning is required. Use any standard equipment at an
atomising pressure of 3.5 - 4.2 Kg/cm 2.
Airless Spray: Addition of Thinner 844/ T11 upto 5-10% is recommended for ease of application. Use any standard
equipment having pump ratio 30:1, Tip size 0.38 - 0.48 mm. Tip pressure 110 - 160 Kg/cm 2

Notes :
1. Use off the mixed paint within the stipulated pot life period.
2. Do not apply when temperature falls below 5º C or when it rises above 50º C and when relative humidity rises above
85%. Do not apply during rain, fog or mist.
3. Application characters are likely to get affected when temperatures are below 10 oC. Extended dryiing and curing time
needs to be allowed.
4. Always apply the paint when the surface temperature is 3 oC higher than the dew point temperature.
5. Brushes and spray equipment should be cleaned with Thinner 844, otherwise equipment is likely to be damaged.
6. Uncoated primed steel is likely to develop zinc salts on the surface; flash blasting or high pressure water jet cleaning has
to be done before overcoating, to avoid intercoat adhesion issues.
