(VIN) for each truck body. This applies to all truck bodies manufactured by Gleeson Steel.
Associated Documents
VIN Master Sheet
Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the supervisor of the body builder area and the draftsman to generate
the unique VIN number for each build.

It is the responsibility of the draftsman to record the VIN number on the VIN master sheet.

It is the responsibility of the draftsman to ensure that character 10 (production year code)
changes on Jan 1 of each production year and also that characters 15, 16 & 17 revert to 001 in
each production year.

Procedure

The VIN number (17 digits) is determined in line with the NSAI requirements. This number
is generated by the supervisor of the body building area, in conjunction with the draftsman.
Characters 15, 16 & 17 are automatically generated by the VIN Master sheet. This ensures
that no repetition can occur. The VIN number is punched onto the right side of the truck
body. This is done by the supervisor. The VIN number also appears on the Body Builders
Vehicle Plate.

The VIN number is recorded in the drawing office on an excel spreadsheet (VIN Master
Sheet), showing the VIN Number, the customer, body type and issue date.
