RIPSTAR®155
RIPSTAR 155 is a two-component, low-viscosity epoxy resin-
based crack injection system with long mixed pot life designed
for sealing cracks in concrete and restoring its structural
integrity.
Specification:
RIPSTAR 155 is a two-component, epoxy-based injection system.
It is a low-viscosity resin system having a viscosity less than 350
cps at ambient temperatures. The injection resin shall comply with
ASTM C881, Type 1 & 4, Grade 1, Class B &C. It passes rating for
shrinkage test as per ASTM C881 and shall be impermeable.
Concrete is a brittle material that cracks often as it tries to restrain
possible movements due to volume change, tractive forces, freeze,
and thaw cycles, etc. Cracks of such nature are repetitive and if
brittle material is used to fill or instill the same, it may result in the
cracking of the filling material as well. RIPSTAR 155 stays
semiflexible once cured completely which helps in maintaining the
integrity of the grout even in thin profile sections.

 Stabilized cracks in structural elements.
 Cold joints between subsequent pours of concrete.
 Gap behind the steel plate & concrete for plate bonding.
 Unfilled voids behind tiles, and stone facades.

Coverage:
The quantity of RIPSTAR 155 required is dependent on the total
volume of the void to be grouted, absorption of the substrate, loss,
and wastage.

Application procedure:
Surface preparation:
Correct and high-quality preparation is critical for optimum
performance.
Cracks or cold joints:
Clean the concrete surface, 2 cm on either side of the crack or joint,
free from dust, fungus, curing membrane and other such
contaminants or if necessary, remove the contaminated layer. For
pressure injection, drill 10 mm diameter, 50 mm deep holes at
predetermined locations. Use pneumatic drills underwater. Ensure
that holes are vacuumed before fixing nipples. Use RIPSTAR 122
to glue the ports on cracks or fix the nipples in holes. The frequency
of ports or the nipples depends on the crack severity and the nature
of the structure. For reference, maximum center-to-center distance
between adjacent ports can be considered as 1 m. If the crack runs
through a section of more than 500 mm thick structural elements,
ports/nipples may be required on both the faces of the elements. Seal
the whole length of crack opening using RIPSTAR 122.
Other applications:
For epoxy plate bonding, fix injection nipples into the pre-drilled
holes on the plate and seal all the gaps around the plate using
RIPSTAR 122. To fill voids behind tiles, stone facade etc., drill
holes to reach the location of void and fix nipples. At least 2 holes
should be drilled to grout each void.
Mixing:
Being a small pack, hand mixing is possible. Mix the entire contents
of both Base and Hardener containers to avoid batching errors.
Placing:
Place the mixed resin system into cracks or joints by ponding
method (gravity grouting) for horizontal surfaces or by injection
method (Pressure grouting) for vertical or overhead surfaces. For
grouting using gravity method, build a bund on either side of the
crack and pond to mix of RIPSTAR 155. Scrape out the resin left
over after 2-3 hours. For grouting using injection method use a low
pressure, air operated injection equipment or hand operated
cartridge gun depending on the location & size of the crack. Start
the injection process from the widest part if it is a horizontal surface
or from the lowest point if it is a vertical surface.

Inject each port or nipple (keeping all others closed except the
adjacent one).
When the resin starts issuing out of the next port/nipple, close it
and continue injection. After maintaining the pressure for 1 to 5
minutes to allow for total penetration, close the port and
disconnect the pump. Continue the process until all the ports or
nipples are injected in similar manner. After 24 hours remove all
the injection ports and nipples. Fill in the resulting cavities using
RIPSTAR 122.

Storage and Shelf life All:

Store under cover, out of direct sunlight and protect from
extremes of temperature. In tropical climates the product must
be stored in an air-conditioned environment. Shelf life is 12
months when stored as above.

Safety precautions:
As with all chemical products, care should be taken during use and
storage to avoid contact with eyes, mouth, skin, and foodstuffs
(which can also be tainted with vapor until product fully cured or
dried). Treat splashes to eyes and skin immediately. If accidentally
ingested, seek immediate medical attention. Keep away from
children and animals. Reseal containers after use. Do not reuse
containers for storage of consumable item.
