Non productive time of the tractor such as resting time, fixing time, lifting the implement
when turning to make u turn
Effective field capacity= The average rate at which the operation really moves. E.g. within
10 hours, cotton has been picked from 8 acres of land. Hence EFC= 0.8 per hour.
Total no. of tractors used= [total actual no.of days done by 1 tractor/ targeted no.of days
to finish whole fields]
Factor affecting farm operation: The criteria of the machine used. The width and speed of
the tractor affect the performance of the machines.
EFC= actual capacity or performance of the machinery during the farm operation (actual
at the field, at the time)
TFC= field capacity based on theoretical data. For example, the average theoretical
speed of the operation. Give initial anticipation of how the machinery works. Usually
provided in the brochure.
FE= is the ratio between EFC over the TFC. Note that TFC always higher than EFC
FE includes the time loss (of not using the machinery) and the failure of the operators in
utilizing the full width of the machine
The time spent in EFC might be higher than the duration expected in TFC
To find TFC can be directly read from the graph where the y-axis is TFC, the x-axis is the
implement width and the rate or gradient is the speed OR by calculating using the TFC
formula.
EFC is the relationship between:
a. width of implement
b. speed of operation
c. time lost during operation
There always a waste of width (the width of implement cannot be utilised fully)
Overlap usually occurs like tilling at the same spot---> allowable 5% only
Overlapping of tillage area (the 5%) need to be substracted from the working width, W1
The time and speed spent on overlapping must be substracted out for EFC
The performance of the tractor can be reduced when the crop harvested to be ripped is
much smaller in size than the actual working width (after substracting the 5%
overlapping)
TFC takes W1 100%
BUT EFC substracts the 5% overlapping hence 95% of W1 it takes
The working width is measured directly right after the operation
Multi-tasking of operations may reduce the performance of the machinery or FE coz the
operator need to focus on more than 1 job to perform on
Time for turning & reverse is a waste
