BC Pile Foundation 1

Pile foundations transmit structural loads directly to the ground. Piles can be made of steel, concrete, or wood. They are either pre-cast or poured in place. Piles transfer loads through end bearing on a hard soil layer or friction along the pile shaft. Pile foundations are classified based on their function as either bearing piles, which transfer load through end bearing, or friction piles, which transfer load through side friction along the pile. They are also classified based on material as concrete, wooden, steel, or composite piles.

PILE FOUNDATION

BORED PILE FOUNDATION DESIGN

CLASSIFICATION OF END BEARING PILES-
IN THIS TYPE OF FOUNDATION, THE LOAD IS TRANSMITTED
BY A VERTICAL MEMBER, KNOWN AS A PILE. THE PILES
ARE GENERALLY MADE OF STEEL, CONCRETE AND WOOD.
THESE ARE EITHER PRE-CAST OR IN-SITU.
