CLOCKAUDACIOUS

Being a crazy type of trick as shown to me by Dick Koornwinder

Let’s make it clear the basic principle is as old as the hills. No originality is claimed for the
principle. It is just an amusing interlude with a pack of cards.

You need a pack of Jokers plus a few genuine cards. Put a pencil mark on the top left and
bottom right corners on the backs of the genuine cards so that you can tell where they are from the
back when the cards are dealt, face down, on the table. Only one of the genuine cards is used in the
trick— Lets assume the genuine card you decide to use is ‘The Seven of Hearts’. Place this card at
the 13th position from the top of the pack. Put the pack in its case and you are all set.

I suggest you write the prediction long before you start, it cuts down delay and allows you to
get on with the job in hand. Write on a piece of paper — “THURSDAY IS A BAD DAY FOR MAKING
DECISIONS OR PREDICTIONS - ALL I CAN SAY IS THE CARD ON THE HOUR YOU ARE
THINKING OF WILL NOT BE A JOKER”
Working — Remove the cards from the case and place them, face down, on the table. Turn
to the spectator and ask him to think of any hour between 1 & 12 — This done, look him in the eye —
stall for a second and then make passes over his eyes as though you are trying to hypnotise him —
slowly move the hands around so that you are waving them before your own face and — pretend to
pass out — Shake your head and apologise for what happened — Pick up the pack and illustrate
what you want him to do, namely, count off the same number of cards into a small pile on the table —
State that the cards must be dealt FACE DOWN and THAT HE MUST NOT LOOK AT ANY CARD —
Further state that he will see the reason for this shortly... .Tell him that you will turn away whilst he
counts the cards and ask him to place them down quietly so that you cannot hear the count - Having
done this you ask him to pick up the cards and, again without looking at them, place them in his
pocket.
State that there are 12 hours on the clock face. So saying, count 12 cards from the top of the
pack into the right hand - YOU MUST REVERSE THE CARDS IN THE PROCESS OF THE COUNT.
Place the balance of the pack to one side. Now take the 12 cards just counted and, starting at the
‘One—o—clock’ position, deal them down on the table in the form of a clock face — As you deal you
will see where the MARKED CARD FALLS but you don’t reveal this during the working.

Having got the cards on the table ask the spectator to loan you a coin - any coin — but make
sure it’s a silver one — and make certain its a 50p piece (or Half-Dollar) – Take the coin from him and
state that you will tap each card and he is to call ‘STOP’ when you touch the card at the hour he is
thinking of - Place the borrowed coin on this card.
CLOCKAUDACIOUS
He is now asked to remove the prediction from his pocket and read it aloud.... Having done
so you ask him to turn over the selected card - - - Folk will look at you as though you are mad — Ask
him to turn over the rest of the cards on the dial - Ask him to turn over the rest of the pack - Tell him to
remove the cards he originally placed in his pocket — The trick is over.
It won’t kill anyone but will amuse anyone with a sense of humour. Don’t forget to change the
card if repeating the trick before the same group of people - You can, if you so wish, have them place
the cards they remove in the first instance in a small wallet – Don’t forget, you must stress that they do
not look at the cards – If they start asking questions, just say that you are making a prediction and do
not wish to see any of the cards.
Of course the experts can false shuffle, cut, go raving mad etc., etc -, in order to convince
them how clever they are. I just did the trick a couple of times in the studio as above outlined and it
went very big before lay people... try it this way and then start to add the improvements you think are
necessary.
