In the article “ Influence of music on the hearing and mental health of adolescents and countermeasures” (2023),
author Li Chen argues that “The mental wellbeing of adolescents is significantly influenced by music” and in the
process, music can have positive or negative impact in adolescent minds.

Chen illustrates this concept by explaining the importance of music in adolescent lives by including various
perspectives of both the advantages of music (Sense of belonging) with music's disadvantages (diversion of attention),
to compare and contrast the risks and benefits of adolescent development through the music perspective.

Using examples from conducted research, she incorporates a long list of harmful effects of music in adolescent lives
(hearing damage,Violence), in order to propose possible solutions (volume control, monitoring content of music) that
will ultimately affect the lives of adolescents for the benefit of future generations.

Chen’s apparent audience are adolescents because they start off by the impact that music has on adolescent lives, (“...In
the lives of adolescents”) and aims to propose solutions that music has on adolescents. Furthermore Chen’s article
makes their piece appealing to both adolescents and concred parents, as her main goal for teens to “express music
freely” (5).

In the article “The Development of Soft Skills through Music in Educational Contexts” author Mario Diz-Otero
emphasizes the idea that skills (Leadership, communication) can be built up and be heavily influenced from musical
concepts, and can help greatly in building up these fundamental skills.

Otero emphasizes the importance of music in education environments by systematically comparing the concepts of
music(creativity, artistic expression) and “soft skills”, to provide the reader with a perspective that shows the
similarities between both concepts.

Otero claims that music is in fact a tool that can be used for the development of skills, so by systematically comparing
music with the development of fundamental skills (Music enables the development of social skills), he strengthens his
claim and provides the reader with the steps to do so (Participation in music education programs).

Otero has no apparent audience at first, as he begins to write about those who wish to work on developing
fundamental skills by incorporating valuable lessons from music, he mentions that the research behind this, since
adolescents incorporate music more than anyone else in their daily lives, the research of this study are “ perceived by
adolescents” (17).
