Construction of a VRLA Cell
Construction of a VRLA Cell
On the part of the construction of a VRLA cell, it consists of two electrodes, identified
as positive and negative electrodes and diluted sulfuric acid (H2SO4) as the
electrolyte.
The positive electrode is made up of Lead dioxide (PbO2) and the negative electrode
is made up of spongy Lead (Pb).
Construction of a VRLA Cell
The two electrodes are separated by a separator, known as Absorbent Glass Mat
(AGM). The glass mat is spongy in nature, which helps in holding sulfuric acid, formed
during charging of the battery.
During discharging, AGM releases this sulfuric acid and makes it available for electro-
chemical process.
