Construction of a VRLA Cell

The Two Electrodes & Electrolyte

 On the part of the construction of a VRLA cell, it consists of two electrodes, identified
as positive and negative electrodes and diluted sulfuric acid (H2SO4) as the
electrolyte.

 The positive electrode is made up of Lead dioxide (PbO2) and the negative electrode
is made up of spongy Lead (Pb).

Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) as the separator

 The two electrodes are separated by a separator, known as Absorbent Glass Mat
(AGM). The glass mat is spongy in nature, which helps in holding sulfuric acid, formed
during charging of the battery.

 During discharging, AGM releases this sulfuric acid and makes it available for electro-
chemical process.
