1 KNOWLEDGE OF THE 8/10  The RDI farm is well stocked with skilled workers liker milkers
COMMUNITY AND THE herdsmen, trained workers.
PEOPLE IN CHARGE  The farm holds trainings of workers regularly which equip workers
OF ANIMALS with good skills of handling animals.
 The RDI farm has good educated and trained farm managers,
operation managers who take in charge of animals and supervise all
farm activities to be done effectively in time, eg milking in time,
cleaning regularly.
2 Proper Nutrition 9/10  At RDI FARM there is proper nutrition where animals are fed on
balanced diet feeds regularly. Animals are given silage, hay,
breweries wastes, maize bran,
 Animals are taken in the field and feed on fresh pastures
 Animals are given enough clean water regularly
 Claves are given enough clean milk
 This improves the milk production and good health of the animals
3 Clean water and 10/10  At RDI farm they have a permanent source of big dams
sanitation  They have big water stores like water tanks, which stores large
volumes of water to use dry seasons when water is scarce
 At RDI farm there is good sanitation where cleaning is compulsory ie
they carry out floor scrubbing twice in a day to ensure good sanitation
 Proper cleaning of milking materials
 Milkers fast wash their hands before and after milking with clean
water.
4 Productive health and 9/10  RDI farm heifers give birth every year by AI method
neonatal care [Calf  At RDI farm calves are fed very well on milk through bucket feeding
rearing] method,
 Each calf is given four litters of milk per day which makes calves grow
health
 Calves stay in good clean calf pens with dried beddings,

5 Vaccination and 8/10  AT RDI farm there is regular vaccination of animals against diseases
immunisation like FMD, Lumpy skin
 AT RDI farm vaccination is not practiced very wel
6 Local disease control 8/10  Some local diseases are controlled at the farm eg FMD by restricting
entry of foreign animals
 The farm is properly fenced, stop animals from moving out of the farm
where they can contract local diseases.
 They have footbath at the farm entry to disinfect local infection
diseases
 Some local diseases like mastitis are still a threat to the farm.

7 Accessible treatment 9/10  The farm has cooperation with good and exposed veterinary doctors
like Dr. Mwebembezi willian who offer quality treatment of animals
and good advice for the farm
 The farm has a farm manager who studied veterinary animal health
that quickly treat sick animals before the severe signs.

8 Drugs and other input 9/10  The farm has drug store where drugs for treating animals are kept
supplies separately.
 The farm has other many supplies items like, feeds breweries wastes,
maize bran, salt, drugs,
9 Proper record keeping 10/10  The farm has proper record keeping,
 The farm has both health record keeping which helps to trace
common diseases diseases at the farm and production records which
makes budgeting easy
 Helps to know the income and expenditures of the farm
10 Environmental concerns 10/10  The Farm ensures general environmental cleaning where you can’t
find any piece of polyethen at the farm
 The farm participates in planting of pastures which reduces soil
erosions.

Conclusion: RDI farm fulfils most of primary Animal health care practises of animals and protects the environment concerns and
it’s a good example to learn on.
