1. Define the concept teaching
- Teaching is mainly concerned with the intellectual moulding and development of
the learner and its purpose is to help learners to obtain knowledge, cultivate skills
and expertise, develop their powers of independent thinking, acquire the desired
values and develop acceptable attitudes in order to live, learn and work more
effectively.

2. What is the field of subject didactics?


- Subject didactics can be defined as being all the thoughts which can be connected
to a subject and teaching such a subject, and it is common to divide subject didactics
into three subject questions:

a) What? (Reflection on what a subject is all about, i.e. what is relevant in a subject).
b) Why? (Reflection on what makes a subject relevant, i.e. what legitimises a subject).
c) How? (Reflection on the way in which a subject can be learned, taught and
developed).

3. Tabulate the difference between the behaviourist and the constructivist learning
theories related to the role of the teacher, learner, content and environment.

4. Give the purpose of the subject Business Studies.

5.3
The National Curriculum aims to ensure that children acquire and apply knowledge
and skills in ways that are meaningful to their own lives.
In this regard, the curriculum promotes knowledge in local contexts, while being
sensitive to global imperatives and its purpose is
• equipping learners, irrespective of their socio-economic background, race, gender,
physical ability or intellectual ability, with the knowledge, skills and values necessary
for self-fulfilment, and meaningful participation in society as citizens of a free
country;
• providing access to higher education
• facilitating the transition of learners from education institutions to the workplace
• providing employers with a sufficient profile of a learner’s competences.
The National Curriculum Statement Grades 10 -12 aims to produce learners that are
able to:
• identify and solve problems and make decisions using critical and creative thinking
• work effectively as individuals and with others as members of a team
• organise and manage themselves and their activities responsibly and effectively
• collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information
• communicate effectively using visual, symbolic and/or language skills in various
modes
• demonstrate an understanding of the world as a set of related systems by
recognising that problem solving contexts do not exist in isolation.
