Games for Babies 2-6 years old(can adapt and use for older)

1) March and chant- Teacher will drill a word by having children

march around a table or their chairs in a line and repeat the words in
time to the march.. can get faster and stop and shout SIT DOWN! The
first team to sit down gets high five or stars. The other team have to
say words loudly~Can vary this game to have statues when they stop
or hug in groups when you shout ‘3’ or ‘2’.
2) Chair sit- Can simply put the cards on different chairs and have 2
kids race to sit on the card. If the first one sits down the second one
will sit on the first kids knee.. they will like this but make sure to pick
evenly sized children. Boys can be rough so take care to monitor.
3) Hug game – Best when teaching two cards… need two TAs with one
card each. Standing opposite each other and when you call the words
the children run and hug the Ta with that card.. Can make it so last
person there is out or has to say word.
4) Train- Classic! kids follow you around room repeating words. When
you say stop they have to be still as statues. .If you call 2 the kids get
into pairs if you call 3 the kids get into threes. Can also vary to be
when you shout stop they have to tip-toe back to seat as quietly as
possible or ‘teacher crocodile’ will get them.
5) Musical Chairs - first the kids go around the chairs and when the
music stop they sit down as fast as they can.So many variants here,
can swap kids, add extra chairs, or put cards on chairs or make kids
be teacher if they are out.
6) Hoola hoop jump- Use for sentences to break up words.. Jump into
each hoop and say word. (I)-(like)-(red). Helps listening to
pronunciation. Can join two sentences together also good for spelling
words. (c) (a) (t) etc.
7) Passing game – Kids will be in a circle and pass a ball or dice around
the room until the music stops or teacher shouts stop. The kid with the
dice can say the word or be the teacher.
8) Hit the cards- Kids race to hit cards with hammer or hands or fly
swatters.. Increases excitement and is a nice easy filler before the
break or activity book.
9) Race around- Put cards on chairs and as a team or as one vs one they
have to move around the right chair that the teacher calls then race
back to seat.
10) Missing card- Put the cards on the floor. This works best with 4 or
more cards. Drill them and then say ‘Close your eyes’ then take one
away and say ‘open your eyes’. First child to shout out missing card
gets a point. This is a review game for words already learned at least
once.
