I- Introduction
The American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) is eager to provide the best services
to the students making their study journey one of the most exciting times in their lives.
AUIB is providing a technology package of the last up to date products for the ease
and success of study delivery process in the most proper and efficient mechanisms.
The Information Technology department (IT) is the division that is responsible for
planning, developing and operating AUIB’s information and communication
infrastructure. It continually develops and maintains new services to assist students and
staff to access information more effectively and efficiently with enhanced security.

II- Student Technology Package


By the beginning of each academic year, AUIB hosts orientation events for the new
students, when they will receive their IT orientation document defining their services,
credentials, and guides on how to use the technologies for the success of the study
journey. AUIB students will enjoy using a technology package of products/services
including the followings:
1. WIFI Access.
2. Microsoft Email Address.
3. Microsoft 365 Apps Package.
4. Canvas LMS.
5. Oracle SIS.
6. Library E-Books Access.
7. Turnitin Anti-Plagiarism.

1- WIFI Access
AUIB Students can access the WIFI and enjoy internet services everywhere in the
campus by accessing:
SSID: Students
Password: @UIB_S20!
Students can access the WIFI from the laptop by following the below steps.
On the right down corner, click on the WIFI icon and connect accordingly:

2- Microsoft Email Address


AUIB is providing a unique Microsoft Email address to each student through which the
student will be receiving all AUIB announcements and will be his/her platform to
communicate with AUIB departments, the instructors, the colleagues and to access the
university systems.
The student will receive his/her credentials (Email address and password) in the IT
orientation document during the orientation events that will be organized by the
beginning of each academic year for the new students.

The Email could be accessed/set for the first time through the following:
- Open any browser (Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome etc.).
- Access the URL (https://www.office.com/) and click on Sign In, steps (1) & (2).
- Enter your AUIB Email and Password, steps (3) to (6).

- The student should change his/her password in the first login, the change password
window will appear directly after step (6).
- The student should enter the password, then the new password and confirm the new
password and then click on Sign In, steps (7) to (10).
- More information will be required to secure the account, step (11).
- Mobile number to be linked to the account, the student should choose the country,
enter the phone number without the first “0”, choose the method to receive the
verification code and click on Next, steps (12) to (15).
- The verification code will be sent to the student’s phone, the student should enter
the verification code and click on Next, steps (16) & (17).
- Microsoft 365 package will be opened, the student should click on Outlook which
will appear on the left side bar to access the Email, step (18).

- After completing the first login successfully, the student can access the email
directly following steps (1) to (6) only, for any future access.
- If the student is trying to login and forgot the password in step (5).
- The student can reset the password by clicking on Forgot Password, step (6).
- Verification will be required, either by text or call, step (10).
- The student should enter the phone number linked to the email, with the country
code at the beginning (for Iraq, it is +964) followed by the number without the first
“0”, then click on Text or Call, steps (11) & (12).
- The student should enter the code and click on Next, steps (13) & (14).
- The student should enter the new password and confirm it and click on Finish and
then he/she can access the email normally with the new password, steps (15) to
(17).

3- Microsoft 365 Apps Package


In addition to the Email address, AUIB is providing a package of Microsoft 365
package including a variety of products that the students can benefit from for the
success of the study journey.
The package could be accessed through following the same steps of accessing the
Email address point #2, steps (1) to (6), then the student can click on the Apps icon to
view the products, step (7), and can click on All Apps to check the full list, step (8).
The student can navigate to multiple Apps, the important
ones are the followings:
- Outlook.
- Word.
- PowerPoint.
- Excel.
- SharePoint.
- Teams.
- OneDrive.
- OneNote.
- Sway.

4- Canvas LMS
The learning management system (LMS) is used by the teachers for course
management where the student will find copies of his/her course syllabus, course
materials, assignments, and grades, etc. The courses in Canvas are a direct reflection of
the courses the student is registered for.
Canvas LMS could be accessed through AUIB website (auib.edu.iq) → Students →
LMS
Canvas will be opened directly as it is linked to the student’s Email address.
If the student didn’t open his Email address in the browser yet, then the student will
need to follow the normal login to his email stated in point #2.

Through Canvas window, the student can navigate to multiple tabs, the important ones
are the followings:

(1) Dashboard: where the student can check all his activities, announcements, list of upcoming
assignments, exams, deadlines etc.
(2) Courses: where the student can find a list of his assigned courses, the student can access
the desired course by clicking on its title.
(3) Account: where the student can check and edit his profile information, can set his
notifications settings etc.
(4) To Do: where the student will find a list of upcoming assignments, exams, deadlines etc.

By accessing Canvas course, the student will be able to access multiple tabs, the
important ones are the followings:

(1) Home page: where the student can check the imported items that the teacher imported
to be on the home page.
(2) Announcements: where the teacher announces a message or a note to the students for
their considerations.
(3) Assignments: where the student can check all his required assignments (homework)
with the due dates and assigned points.
(4) Discussions: where the teacher will post a topic for an open discussion among the
students and their teacher.
(5) Grades: where the student can check his/her grades, separated by
assignments/quiz/exam and as a total course grade.
(6) People: where the student can check his/her colleagues and teacher information
(names, emails etc.).
(7) Files: where the teacher might upload a file for students access.
(8) Syllabus: where the student can check the course syllabus.
(9) Quizzes: where the student can check all his required quizzes/exams with the due dates
and assigned points.
(10) Modules: where the student can check his lectures, course documents uploaded by the
teacher.
(11) Collaborations: where the teacher might post a task for collaboration among the
students to work together.

5- Oracle SIS
The student information system (SIS) will grant the student the access to student
account for class schedules, registration, student records and financial information.
SIS could be accessed through AUIB website (auib.edu.iq) → Students → SIS

Through SIS window, the student can navigate to multiple tabs, the important ones are
the followings:

(1) Weekly Schedule: where the student can check his/her weekly classes including
their related details (day, time and room).
(2) Academic Record: where the student can check his courses history, the term,
and the grades.
(3) Manage Classes: where the student can check his enrolled classes with their
related details (class start and end dates, class number, credits per class, status
of enrollment, grading basis etc.).
(4) Profile: where the student can check the personal information (name, ID
number, emails, phone number, home address etc.).

6- Library E-Books Access


AUIB library provides a range of services to support the learning, teaching, and
research of the University including access to extensive information resources, a wide
range of flexible learning environments, and support the student needs to achieve
his/her learning goals, enhance the researches and develop new skills.
The E-Library could be accessed through AUIB website (auib.edu.iq) → Library
Where the student can search books among a variety of databases.

7- Turnitin Anti-Plagiarism
Turnitin is a plagiarism detection software that scans student’s work for matched text
by comparing the work to a large database of students works, publications, and
materials on the internet around the world. The Turnitin service is available through an
interface built into Canvas LMS and the teacher will control the assignments
submissions (student work) to be through the tool.
When the teacher choses Turnitin as the submission tool, the student shall follow the
below steps to submit the work:
(1) The top bar will be showing the assignment details, step (1).
(2) The student shall open the assignment, step (2).
(3) Click on “Upload Submission”, step (3).
(4) Choose the submission type, step (4).
(5) Give a submission title, step (5).
(6) Choose the file or write the text (depends on the submission type), step (6).
(7) Click on “Upload and Review”, step (7).
(8) The student Can check the details of the submission, step (8).
(9) The student can go through the pages of the submission for final check, step (9).
(1) Then “Submit” the work, step (10).

III- Support
For any needed support, the student can reach out to the Information and Support
Center who will be addressing the issue/request and provide direct support/advise or
forward the request to the concerned department for further support.
