LOCAL ARTISTS
Fernando Amorsolo (1892-1972)
Born in Manila, Amorsolo studied at the Liceo de Manila and later at the University of
the Philippines School of Fine Arts. His idyllic depictions of rural Philippine life
earned him widespread recognition as the "Grand Old Man of Philippine Art."

Juan Luna (1857-1899)


Hailing from Badoc, Ilocos Norte, Luna pursued art in Europe, gaining acclaim for his
historic and allegorical paintings, with "Spoliarium" winning a gold medal at the
Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes in Madrid.

Benedicto Cabrera (Bencab)
Born in Manila, Bencab's journey in art began at the University of the Philippines
College of Fine Arts. His versatile career spans paintings, prints, and sculptures,
establishing him as a pillar of contemporary Philippine art.

Napoleon Abueva (1930-2018)


Abueva, born in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, trained at the University of the Philippines
and became renowned as the "Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture," leaving an
indelible mark on the Philippine art landscape.

Ang Kiukok (1931-2005)
Ang Kiukok, of Chinese-Filipino heritage, was born in Davao City. His unique artistic
expression, featuring distorted and angular figures, played a significant role in
Philippine modern art.

Cesar Legaspi (1917-1994)


A native of Tondo, Manila, Legaspi was a trailblazer in modern Philippine art,
blending Cubist influences with social themes in his paintings, ultimately earning him
the title of National Artist for Visual Arts.

Anita Magsaysay-Ho, born in Manila, was a celebrated Filipina modernist painter.

A National Artist for Visual Arts, Botong Francisco, born in Angono, Rizal, is known

Pacita Abad (1946-2004)


Pacita Abad was a versatile artist known for her vibrant and colorful paintings, mixed
media works, and trapunto paintings. Born in Batanes, Philippines, she gained
international recognition for her bold and innovative artistic style. Abad's art often
featured a wide range of subjects, from abstract compositions to socio-political
themes.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)


An Italian Renaissance genius, Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, scientist, and
