Utopia

Travis Scott’s 2018 success with its album “Astroworld”, raised his
confidence through the roof, making him think he could do anything. In
2023, he announced his first concert in years, at the Pyramids of Giza, to
announce his next album, “Utopia”. Even though the show was cancelled,
the album still managed to go number one on Spotify and other music
platforms on the release day.
The album consists of 19 songs and 1 hour and 13 minutes of
listening. From the calming synths in “I Know?” and “Parasail”, to the hard
bass in “Fe!n”, the album is a whole journey through different genres. With
features like Drake, Playboi Carti, 21 Savage, its main genre is rap, although it
also contains hints of Pop, collaborating with Beyonce, in “Delresto”, Latino,
featuring Bad Bunny, and 80’s hip-hop with “Modern Jam’s” funky beat.
Utopia also contains five of the first songs fully produced by the artist.
It’s noticeable that with almost every track, he tried different approaches.
“Hyena” and “Sirens”, both have entertaining and rhythmic beats, “Fe!n! is
produced in a rage-like manner, suited for its feature, and “Delresto” and
“Looove” are relaxing, open-minded, and retrospective.
I would describe Travis Scott’s “Utopia” as a Complex Paradise. Even
though the album is like an initiating journey, one still needs some
experience with rap music to understand it, thus it isn’t suited for everyone. I
recommend this album, and I think the first listen is definitely a once-in-a-
lifetime experience.
