1 Introduction
1.1 Overview
This document gives a summary of the overall hardware and software requirements for all the HICO
standard products. The integrated third-party products (COTS Commercial off-the-shelf) are also available.
This mainly involves all products from partners of HICO and other third-party manufacturers.
The document contains the minimum and recommended hardware requirements for each HICO standard
product.
The IT infrastructure includes all facilities, equipment (computer hardware, peripherals), communications
services (network) and software (includes operating systems and database systems) supplied for automated
data processing. These mainly include: all the systems that are used for the storage, security and protection
of data.
− ASD Suite of Specifications (S1000D, S2000M, S3000L, S4000P, S5000F and S6000T)
− ATA e-Business program
− GEIA-STD-0007
− iETD-ExportStandard
− DiTA
HICO itself is a service company and system integrator. Our solution approaches are based on the
specifications and standards of the „ASD Suite of Specifications“, the ATA e-Business program, the GEIA-
STD-0007 (released by US Armed Forces), the “iETD-ExportStandard” and also the “DiTA standard” .
We will have in future also a very heterogeneous world of specifications and standards in the area of
Integrated Product Support (IPS). HICO will consider all these aspects in the product development process.
The strong commitment to standard products and solutions on the basis of international recognized
standards, and therefore to sustainability will be a core component of the corporate philosophy from HICO in
the future.
For the integration of data from SAP as the most important ERP-system we have done integrations in the
past. SAP is also a major part in supporting of Maintenance-Systems. Those information can be easily
exchanged with Maintenance Tracking systems like CAMP Maintenance Tracking, etc.
The HICO iPS.Suite® is the master repository for IPS-delivery objects – for example FMEA-result from the
Design Interface, Maintenance Program-definitions and of course all kind of Technical Publications as well as
the Management of all service-related material data.
HICO HICO AMaX™ is the solution portfolio for end users which are responsible for the operation
of complex and long-living technical products, respectively the related product support or the customer
services.
The consistent application of these solutions should contribute to a outstanding support quality and service
efficiency for end users on the basis of the holistic support of After Market Experience (HICO AMaX).
HICO is currently supporting the IPS-disciplines as shown in this figure.
In the area of the IPS-discipline “Technical Data (Technical Documentation)” we deliver only complete
Solution Packages.
The HICO iPS.Suite® are hereinafter called "System", as the following functions apply
to both products.
1.2.2.1 HICO:DesktopClient
The DesktopClient is a "Rich Client" .NET program to access all the functions of the system. The functions
are divided into modules (administration, configuration, etc.) and the modules are divided into functional
groups.
The HICO:DesktopClient is generally used for all administration, configuration and project management
tasks.
1.2.2.2 HICO:Connector
The Connector is the authoring environment for the creation of structured data modules. It combines the
advantages of the PTC Arbortext® Editor™ or Justsystems XMetaL with the expertise and enhancements of
HICO.
The main advantages at a glance:
− Integration into the system to offer all the necessary functions to the editor.
− Creation of data modules and convenient insertion of links, illustrations, hotspots, materials, etc.
− Templates for the fast and easy re-use of content,
− StyleSheet-Set for S1000D, ATA iSpec 2200, iETD-ExportStandard and DiTA. This includes DTD/
schemas, stylesheets, etc.
− Integrated online help for HICO products and project rules (e.g. National Style Guide – NSG)
− Content Objects can be reused in different publications and projects
1.2.2.3 HICO:ContentManager
The HICO:ContentManager is the central server component of the system. It encapsulates the entire
business logic and controls access to all other components. The HICO:QueuingServer service inherits long
running processes and ranks them for use according to the configured parameters. The integrated profile
database is used to set up various environments with separate data stocks (eg production, integration, QA,
etc.) in a company and is realized by the "HICO: ProfileServer" service. The user can select from the profiles,
and all the related configuration automatically saves centrally. The HICO:IndexServer service is responsible
for the generation of the full-text index. The HICO:IndexServer uses the IFilter that is installed on the server
to extract plain text from the related documents (Word, Excel, XML, HTML, PDF, etc.).
1.2.2.4 HICO:ServiceLibrary
The HICO:ServiceLibrary is a service interface that provides the basic functions (projects, infocodes,
packages, check-out/in, etc.) of HICO:ContentManager for third-party products, such as Cortona3D, Mentor
Graphics, SAP, etc.
1.2.2.5 HICO:CGM-Library
The HICO:CGM-Library ensures the server side processing of CGM data of technical illustrations. The basic
functions enables the generating of thumbnails, converting CGM illustrations, reading metadata such as
hotspots, etc.
1.2.2.6 HICO:eGRS-Library
The enhanced Graphic Support module expands the basic functions of the HICO iPS.Suite® with plugins
for modifying or checking illustrations. Users can easily and efficiently optimise illustrations or adapt them to
specific projects via defined processes.
1.3.1 Clients
The following clients are available for the usage of the system:
− The function of the HICO:DesktopClient is to control and store all data of IETD projects. It is a core
program in the areas of administration, configuration and project management. You can use import
functions to import data into the system in a process-controlled manner.
− For data creation and processing, the HICO:Connector are used. The Connector is an enhancement of
standard SGML/XML editors like PTC Arbortext Editor or Justsystems XMetaL with specific functions in
the form of “hot integration".
− Export the data in different formats to be used in the after-market customer products HICO X-
Browser®, HICO X-ContentPortal® or as HTML Publication.
− For a presentation as PDF, the HICO X-Publisher® is used.
− With the HICO X-ContentSuite® it is possible to view the publications, which are managed in the HICO
iPS.Suite® online with standard HTML5 web browsers.
All imported data is sent to the HICO:IndexServer to generate a search index for the full text search of any
clients. Long running processes such as import/export of Content Objects, validation of data, etc. are sent to
the HICO:QueuingServer. All processes can be executed in parallel multithreading tasks to ensure maximum
performance.
Publishing in PDF format is done using Customizable StyleSheets (CuSS) via the HICO X-Publisher®.
All binary data, which is not stored in the database, is sent to the BLOB Storage on the file system.
All after-market customer products (middle and right column) are web applications that access content via
standard Internet browsers. The HICO X-ContentSuite® provides worldwide access to the editorial and
publication environment to ensure an integrated validation and feedback process.
With HICO DeMoS®, released publications can be made available to the users. For online access, the HICO
X-ContentPortal® can be integrated into existing web solutions or used as a stand-alone device. Via the
HICO X‑Browser®, the content can be viewed offline using a Windows or iOS device.
This scenario represents an extended entry level for an unlimited number of concurrent users. Each HICO
product and component is installed on dedicated server. Each installed HICO:QueuingServer processes a
configured number of processes running in parallel.
IDX VM
The “IDX VM” holds the HICO:IndexServer. This application can be installed like the “QS VM” on the “CM &
PS VM” or as a separate VM for a better index performance.
DB
The SQL-Database can be installed on the “CM & PS VM” or as a separate VM as well as a Azure
SQL-Database.
DeMoS VM
The “DeMoS VM” holds the HICO DeMoS® and should be installed on a separate virtual machine in a
different virtual network for security reasons. The access to this application is only available via https.
XCP VM
The “XCP VM” holds the HICO X-ContentPortal® and should be installed on a separate virtual machine in a
different virtual network for security reasons. The access to this application is only available via https.
The call centre agent then forwards this ticket to the dispatcher on duty, who makes an initial analysis of
the issues. The related 1st level helpdesk support also receives this ticket. If no solution can be found, the
dispatcher then decides, together with the customer, about the involvement of the escalation management
team.
Table 2: Warnings
Symbol Description
Warning
A warning is a statement that alerts the user to the possibility of a system
failure, business problem, damaged data or other serious adverse reactions
associated with the use of the software.
Caution
A caution is a statement that alerts the user to the possibility of a business
problem or processing issues. It brings up an issue that the user would better
pay attention to, even if it’s not a system critical matter.
Note
A note is a helpful hint, sometimes a tip, to help the user work more efficient-
ly. Without a note, a user may lose precious time and get frustrated while
trying to understand why something is not working.
