WRITING A RESTAURANT REVIEW

PARAGRAPH 1
In this section, you should give some basic info about the restaurant e.g.
name, location, reason you decided to visit it, maybe you heard something
about the place before you actually visited it, who visits the restaurant most
often.
Phrases you can use:
• It’s located/situated in (está situado/ubicado en)
• In the heart of/in the suburbs of (no corazón de/nas aforas de)
• It was recommended by (foi recomendado por)

PARAGRAPH 2 & 3
In the 2nd and 3rd Paragraph you should provide more details about the food
you ate, how much it cost and add comments about the service and
atmosphere of the place.
Phrases you can use:
• Writing about food:

o The food was very good/delicious. A comida era moi

boa/estaba deliciosa.
o The restaurant offered a great variety of dishes. O restaurante
ofrecía unha gran variedade de pratos.
o The food was awful. A comida era horríbel.
o I was left feeling hungry/I was left as if I hadn’t eaten anything.
Quedei con fame/Quedei coma se non comese nada.
o All the meals were home-made. Todos os pratos eran caseiros.
o They had a take-away option. Tiñan opción para levar.
o They had menus for vegans and people with food intolerances.

• Writing about staff and the atmosphere of the place:

o The staff was very friendly and helpful. O personal foi moi

o The waiter was very rude. O camareiro era moi maleducado.
o The place was very well/very badly decorated. O sitio estaba
moi ben decorado/moi mal decorado.

pasados de moda.
o The bathrooms were very clean/very dirty. Os baños estaban

o You need to book in advance. É necesario reservar con tempo.
o The restaurant was very spacious/cosy. O restaurante era moi

PARAGRAPH 4
In the last paragraph you should include an overall opinion or a
recommendation, with justification. Your review should include positive and
negative comments.
Phrases you can use to end the review

• Making a recommendation

o I would highly / strongly recommend … Recomendaríao

o I certainly wouldn’t recommend … Non o recomendaría
