Each part of the question carries one mark.
(v) Question numbers 14 to 21 in Section C are short answer type questions.
Question numbers 14 to 17 carry 2 marks each and question numbers 18 to 21
carry 3 marks each.
vi) Question numbers 22 and 23 in Section D are five marks questions.

Long answer type questions ( 10 Marks)

22. Rohan took a magnesium ribbon and burnt it in the flame of the burner. (1+2+2=5)
When the ribbon was completely burnt, he collected the powdery ash and mixed it with
small amount of water. He then tested the mixture with blue and red litmus.
(a) What is the colour of the flame of burning magnesium ribbon?
(b) Write word equation for the chemical change when
(i) magnesium ribbon is burnt.
(ii) powdery ash is dissolved in water.
(c) State the result of litmus paper test and identify the chemical nature of the mixture.

23. (a) Amit went to a shopkeeper to buy an electric kettle. The shopkeeper (2+1+2=5)
showed two electric kettles to him-one with an ISI mark and another without ISI
mark. Which electric kettle should Amit prefer to buy and why?
(b) What may happen in an electric circuit due to
(i) direct touching of wire due to wear and tear of insulation on the wires?
(ii) connection of many devices to a single socket?
(c) Mention any one advantage and one disadvantage of CFLs over ordinary bulbs.
