Manufacturing Management
Introduction
• Purpose
You will be able to:
• Understand the structure of a production system
• Assimilate the concept of “Bill Of Materials”
• Create the M-BOM of a manufacturing product
• Develop a process planning
• Audience
Teachers and students involved on the topic of the manufacturing management
• Prerequisites
• Knowledge of 3DEXPERIENCE platform
• Knowledge of industrial production system
2
Roles & Apps
In order to practice, you must have access to the 3DExperience R2018x platform with the following Roles
and Apps :

1. Case study
6
Case study
• During this course the case study will be the Flexible Production System. This system exist in reality and
belongs to the LGIPM in Metz, Lorraine.
• The production system corresponds to an assembly line and the term flexible refers to the system’s
ability to adjust its assembly operations depending on the product’s type
• Below is a picture of the system in a 3D environment
7
Case Study
During this lab, we are going to configure, simulate, and an analyze a whole production system that
engraves glass blocks with a laser machine and packs them for delivery to clients. This production line
has 8 stations and needs raw material in the following way.
8
Case Study
After the block engraved in the workstation 1, the product goes through 3 main steps: Assembly process,
Quality Control, and Packaging & Delivery.

2. Introduction to the applications
17
Manufactured Item Definition
The Manufactured Item Definition app allows us to define and manage the MBOM. You can create the
complete assembly structure of a product.
18
Manufactured Item Definition
Useful tool which are used in this course
• Provided part
Refers to a single part which is provided
for a manufacturing assembly
• Manufacturing Assembly:
Refers to a manufacturing assembly
made of several parts and/or
sub-assemblies
19
Process Planning
During the process planning you will define the routings/operations using the MBOM that was previously
defined as input. You will describe the sequence of routings/operations, associate time and capable
resources and distribute them along the production line.

23
Work Instructions
• The Work Instructions app provides a 3D immersive environment for you to author work instruction
types, including text-based work instructions, data collection, sign off and alerts. These work instruction
types can then be easily sequenced with simple drag-and-drop capabilities for any specific operation in
the process.
• You can use the Work Instructions app with the data containing defined general operations. It is set up
using either the Assembly Experience app or the Process Planning app.
• You can enter the work instructions directly to add instructions to operations, that do not have other
operations as children.

Bill of Materials Types
28
Definition of Bill Of Materials
• Bill of Materials will be abbreviated as “BOM” • The "BOM" will be the skeleton of a product,
for the rest of this course. it will often be represented in the form of a
tree ("Product Tree"), this allows anyone to
quickly know the components, subassembly
• This document contain all necessary or raw materials used to make a product.
components in order to manufacture a
• This representation also makes it possible to
product
trace the order of use of the various
components and to know the quantities
required to manufacture a given product.
29
Types of BOM
BOM can be modulated depending on the use we want. This modulation allows to dedicate some parts
to a specific unit, here we will see several examples

32
E-BOM
✔ The E-BOM or "Engineering Bill of Materials" is produced by the
design office and corresponds to the technical and functional
description of the products.
33
M-BOM
A Manufacturing Bill Of Materials (MBOM) contains all the parts and assemblies required to
build a complete product.
34
M-BOM
✔ After designing the product, it must be manufactured and shipped.
Séquence de montage
✔ To manufacture, it is necessary to take into account several criteria such as:
Manufacturing processes
Cycle times
The costs
Manufacturing sites
✔ Manufacturing-BOM breaks down the product based on the assembly process and answers the
M-BOM
question:
✔ The personnel assigned to the production methods pilot the M-BOM. These personnel must be in
close collaboration with logistics and purchasing because M-BOM determines which component of
the product should be delivered and where the entries for logistics are.
