A FORLORN HOPE John Vani Cadorna | CMU Students

The City of Malabon University School’s Administration distributed mobile devices last
March 4, 2021 at CMU grounds to partially aid students’ plights on flexible learning.

The frustrated students of City of Malabon University bantering online about the
damaged cellphones they have received from the University’s Acting President and City
Mayor, LenLen Oreta. Majority of the students have acquired the phones with
comparable complains regarding the specification and malfunctions of the phones in
hopes of using it for their daily online classes amidst the expanding plights of the said
flexible learning.
Allegedly, the phones were said to be overheating whilst charging which cause students’
agitations, afraid of what might happen next. Most students of CMU are residing at the
depressed areas of Malabon City where houses are very close to each other and that fire
have always been the opponent.
“I rather not use this phone afraid of causing it fire” are just some of the students’
sentiments. The office of the mayor took no notice on the said event, and by worse luck, it
appears that the phone distributors failed to include the adaptor of the cellphones. They
also advise the students to return back the phone if experienced any malfunctions.
The disappointed students brought their problem online to get the attention of the
school administration, however the management did not take any steps to answer the
questions and in providing clarifications. Unfortunately, the issue was left unresolved and
students of Malabon University were discouraged by this.
A lot of students prepared the needed documents for the distribution and was held at
City of Malabon University grounds. It is said that mobile devices are given by batch to
avoid jam-packed incidents and in observing the pandemic protocols. Students hoped for
its beneficial effects that are very particular in the existing digital learning. Unfortunately,
many did not expect that the phones appeared to be clones and have defects vulnerable to
hazardous situations. In view of the blended learning as the new educational norm of

She shared pictures of the cart on her Facebook account and little did she know,

City of Malabon University students have gone despondent in the

The institution has faced difficulties in distributing grades to students in

January to date. The MIS (Management Information System) has
malfunctioned and it has to be modified and fixed immediately to release
students' academic evaluation and to answer their related queries. Students
from BSE ENGLISH 3A are one of the said complainants of the issue.
Ms. Angel Joyce Berdin, a third-year college student from BSE ENGLISH
3A, happens to be one of those who wished for an immediate release of her
General Weighted Average (GWA). Just like her and most of the students,
the GWA is needed for scholarship grants and renewals as part of the
requirements and other important matters. In line with that, is to determine
whether or not the students have passed or failed their courses. This issue
has been raised since the start of the year up to the present and many have
sent their emails persistently stating their request, but little to zero response
were obtained.
Some students brought their disappointments and queries online, even
directly mentioning the acting president and City Mayor LenLen Oreta,
wishing for an immediate response in hopes of pursuing offered scholarship
grants, hence otherwise stated. “I failed to comply on the grant offered
because I cannot present my GWA,” Berdin commented.
“It’s saddening knowing that you got zero assurance whether or not you
passed or failed the semester,”said Rhica Ella Javier, from BSE English 3A.
It was only this month of April, where stating that the system for issuing
grades has been established and the administrator announcing, "Please
kindly check the order of payment, will pay at Malabon City Hall on the 3rd
floor and kindly send us a copy of your official receipt for us to process

were expected to personally head to the University to process their requests,

Cristine Joy De Leon | Prof. Ligaya Orqueza| Personal Data Sheet

It is a marvelous thing and coincidence that my cooperating teacher in

Field Study 2 was named Ligaya in view of her unique flair to bring
happiness to people by transmitting her positive disposition in life.

Ligaya Agustin Orqueza is the full name of my professor. She was born
on the 24th of June in the year 1997 and she was 43 years old now.
Professor Orqueza lives at Tangos, Navotas City with her four lovely
children. She graduated with honorable mention when she was in
elementary and with flying colors in college at the Far Eastern University
with the degree of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in History,
and now a Master of Arts in Administration and Supervision. She is a
master teacher 1 at Tangos National High School and a part-time
instructor 1 at the City of Malabon University.
“Ma’am Orqueza has an amazing class lecture and we always enjoyed
her class. She knew how to deal with her student’s capabilities. I
remembered the times that she gave us a quiz in advance, she was able to
give us time to prepare and review our past lessons that she has been
discussed. She always considered those students who are not able to
attend her class or to answer the quiz immediately due to lack of data
connection. She is truly an empathetic professor because she often
understood us. We really learned from her presentations while we
enjoyed it and not getting bored. Besides, she is like a real mother of us as
she’s always willing to understand and give patience to us. A one of a kind
teacher that we like” said BSE English 1A.
I witnessed how she is to be a teacher and a mother. The first time I
talked to her, she called me “Anak” just like her other students and I
already felt the warmth and comfort to her. She is a master teacher yet
she portrayed a very simple and humble characteristics which I like
about her the most. I never felt intimidated by her because she is very
kind just what her students mentioned above. I remembered the first
time she gave me a task, instead to rush me to do it she asked me if that
was fine with me whether if I have a Wi-Fi or just prepaid load because
the task may take some time to finished.
That moment I knew that Professor Orqueza is a very sympathetic and
empathetic person which made me admire her because of her genuine
heart for others. When I asked her if there are clerical tasks she wanted
me to do, she always asked me first to do my assignments with my other
subjects. Despite of her busy schedules, she always responded right away
if I greeted her and if I have queries about the clerical task she gave me.
Moreover, when I helped and assisted her she never failed to say thank
you.
“Let us not make things worse”, this quote reminded me of Ma’am
Orqueza. She is a very kind and understanding person. Even if you did
not comply or pass easily she will still give us a chance to comply and
learn and she knows how to handle us and get our hearts” said BSE
English 1-A.
In addition, she has voluntary work to the Girl Scout of the Philippines
since October 22, 2011 where she is the troop leader and she is also a
member of the Red Cross Navotas Chapter since November 8, 2016.
Furthermore, Professor Orqueza has a heart also for singing and poetry
writing aside from being a history master teacher.

VIRUS RESPONSE
Jodick Locquaio | City of Malabon Official FB Page

Philippines imposed the longest and stickiest lockdown in Southeast Asia, yet corona
virus cases continue to scale up. For that reason, the Office of the Vice-President is
launching different programs to help everyone.

One of the many programs of OVP is the E-konsulta; where free consultation services
are provided for Malabonians via Facebook and Messenger, with the help of volunteer
doctors and health professionals.

The OVP launched the said program to help decongest hospital in hopes of expediting
to scale down cases by prevention. This also comes with free Covid-19 Care kits for those
financially challenged in affording medical services and teleconsult platforms.

Last March 30, 2021, OVP initiate Swab Cab in Malabon. It aims to support LGU in
conducting a safe community-based testing. In this program, they are giving antigen
testing to those communities with high rate transmission to reveal covid-19 cases and to
control its arising rate. An antigen is a molecule, such as a protein, that is foreign to the
body and capable of causing your immune system to produce antibodies against it. An
antigen test is used to detect the presence of foreign proteins, which are structural or
functional components of a pathogen and are thus very specific to that pathogen. Antigen
tests have been around for years, offering healthcare providers with a way to rapidly
diagnose medical conditions, such as strep throat or the flu, from the point-of-care within
minutes. Antigen tests are relatively inexpensive and can help healthcare systems combat
COVID-19 through increased testing in both the laboratory and at the point of care.

There's numbness I feel inside,

Can’t let this pass behind.
It feels I’m a stray,
Looking for a place to stay.

Heyyy, why are you standing there?

A shadow leading me somewhere,
An escape from this despair.
It’s a temple, a temple for my soul,
Hoping it's a beautiful end goal.

The temple is you.
