Mindanao?

The RP-US Balikatan exercise will be pushed through in Zamboanga City, according to mid-
allegations. According to the defense secretary, Eduardo Ermita, servicemen took part in the
recent military operation that claimed the lives of 7 civilians and 1 soldier. Due to the deaths
of civilians some oppose to the holding of Balikatan in several neighborhoods of Marawi
City, Teodoro maintains that the event has not yet been canceled.

Teodoro, however, asserts that the claims will in some way affect the bilateral exercise, which
is scheduled to take place in Central Mindanao's Sulu, Tawi-tawi, Basilan, and Zamboanga
from February 18 to March 3.Ermita who went to Sulu, and sat with local official lead by
Governor Sakur Tan, local gov’t units & non gov’t organizations says the reported
participation of US serviceman was mere allegations.

Teodoro said the Military Commander have to continue and work double hard against
terrorism and win the hearts and win the minds of the people.The Balikatan exercises
received mixed and varied reactions from the people of Mindanao.

Thus, giving the military second thought if this exercise will really be implemented on the
13th of February, 2008.
