Subhas Chandra Bose

127th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas
Chandra Bose, one of the most prominent
figures in the country’s freedom struggle.
The day is commemorated as Parakram
Diwas, or Courage Day, to honor Bose’s
indomitable spirit and his invaluable
contribution to India’s independence.
• Bose was born in Cuttack,
Odisha, in 1897. He was a
brilliant student who
excelled in his studies. He
joined the Indian Civil
Service in 1920, but
resigned in 1921 to join the
Indian independence
movement.
• Bose quickly rose through
the ranks of the Indian
National Congress. He was
elected President of the
Congress in 1938, but
resigned in 1939 after a
disagreement with the
party’s leadership.
• In 1941, Bose escaped from
British India and traveled to
Germany. He met with Adolf
Hitler and other Nazi

secure their full support for
the Indian independence
movement.
• In 1943, Bose traveled to
Japan, where he established
the Indian National Army
(INA). The INA was a force of
Indian soldiers who fought
alongside the Japanese against

was known for his fiery
speeches and his commitment
to Indian independence.
• Bose is believed to have died in
a plane crash in 1945.
However, his legacy lives on.
