EXAMINATION, 2021
Subject : PHYSICS
Paper Name : Electricity, Magnetism and
E.M. Theory
Time : Three Hours ] [ Maximum Marks : 70
[ Pass Percentage : 40%
Note : Question paper is divided into two Sections
A and B. Attempt both Sections. Answer
Sections questions as per instructions given.
Section—A
(Short Answer Type Questions)
Note : Attempt any five questions in about
150 words. Each question carries 6 marks.
(5×6=30)
1. State and explain Coulomb’s law in
electrostatics. Define unit charge.
2. Deduce the condition for balance of
Wheatstone’s network using Kirchhoff’s laws.

3. What is Biot-Savart law ? Calculate the

magnetic field at a point due to a straight
current wire.
4. State and explain Faraday’s laws of
electromagnetic induction.
5. Define and explain Poynting vector.
6. Define magnetic susceptibility? Establish a
relation between magnetic susceptibility and
magnetic permeability.
7. Define Thévenin theorem. Find the Thévenin
equivalent circuit for the network in the shaded
area of the network. Then find the current
through RL for values of 2 Ω, 10 Ω, and
100 Ω.

8. Write the expression for capacitance on the

spherical capacitor.
9. Write down the Maxwell’s electromagnetic
equations for an isotropic dielectric medium.

10. Distinguish between dia, para, and ferro

magnetism. Explain the importance of Curie
temperature.
Section—B
(Long Answer Type Questions)
Note : Attempt any four questions in detail. Each
question carries 10 marks. (4×10=40)

Apply Gauss’s theorem to find the electric
field strength due to the infinite uniform flat
sheet of charge.
2. What do you understand by dielectric
polarisation ? Explain the electric field vector
E, electric polarisation vector P and electric
displacement vector Din a dielectric material
and deduce a relation between them.
3. Describe Kelvin’ s and Mance’s method to
determine the resistance of the galvanometer.
4. State Ampere’s circuital law. Determine the
intensity of the magnetic field at the centre of a
long solenoid. How does it change at the ends
of solenoid ?
P. T. O.

5. Define self and mutual inductance. Derive an

expression for the self inductance of a long
straight solenoid.
6. Write Maxwell’s equations in free space in
intergal and differential form, explaining
symbols. What is their physical significance ?
7. Describe the theory of a moving coil
galvanometer. Establish the expression for
ballistic constant of the galvanometer.
8. What is alternating current ? Calculate the
alternating current through L-R and R-C
circuit.
