A tragic accident occurred in Palpa district on Tuesday, resulting in eight fatalities and

19 injuries, three of which are critical. The incident took place as a crowded passenger
jeep, en route from Dumre to Shikhar Danda, veered off the road at Lumpekdanda bend,
plummeting approximately 150 meters below. Among the victims, only Yam Kumari
Panta from Tinau-6 has been identified thus far, comprising five women and three men.

The injured were promptly rescued by security personnel and locals and taken to
Lumbini Medical College in Prabhas for treatment, including a two-month-old infant in
critical condition. Most of the deceased and injured hail from Chidis and Shikhardanda,
as reported by Dinesh Ghimire, a local involved in rescue efforts. The driver, Dan
Bahadur Chidi, attributed the accident to the rough and steep terrain, stating that the
vehicle reversed unexpectedly at the bend, causing it to leave the road.

The incident is believed to have been exacerbated by overloading, as the 13-seater jeep
was carrying more passengers than its capacity allowed. Bhabindra Gautam, head of
Shreenagar Transportation Entrepreneurs' Company Limited, acknowledged the
vehicle's overcapacity.
